Is it possible to have one solid dissolved in another? Explain.
In metals it would be called an alloy.

Orange.

3. Explain why hexane will dissolve benzene but will not dissolve sodium chloride.
Sodium chloride is an ionic compound.

4. Some drinks like tea are consumed hot or cold, whereas others like Coca-Cola are consumed only cold. Why?
For taste reasons, these drinks can be drunk if the user likes It but having coca cola like tea would be gross.

5. What is the effect of:
a) pressure on solubility of gases in liquids? pressure forces more gas into a liquid.
b) pressure on solubility of solids in liquids? _____________________________________________
c) temperature on solubility of gases in liquids? _____________________________________________
d) temperature on solubility of solids in liquids? _____________________________________________

6. Why do trucks distribute salt over icy roads in winter in the North? Explain.

This actually is interesting and since I lived up North I know that the truck don’t actually melt the ice but rather bring the temp of the ice melting point.

7. Will 1 L of 1 M NaCl contain mole chloride ions than 0.5 L of 1 M MgCl2? Explain. Support your answer by calculations.

They will contain the same number of chloride ions.

To determine whether or not NaCl is the best deicer we administered three days of separate experiments. These experiments helped us to find our deicer’s maximum freezing point depression, its H, and its overall efficiency as a deicer. The information obtained through these experiments is crucial to public safety during the winter as the ability to melt ice on roads can be the difference in saving someone’s life. Also, to have an efficient deicer that is proficient in the conditions needed, and is economically savvy for whoever is supplying the salt for these roads is essential when testing for deicing quality.…

Another continuity is that a few of the beverages are safer to drink than water. A reason why is because some are boiled. Boiling creates such extreme heat for many bacteria to survive in. For instance, tea is served hot because it is boiled. In addition, there are leaves in tea called “Camellia sinensis” (177) that kill some types of bacteria.…

    Effects of Salt on Ice

    • 1976 Words
    • 8 Pages

On our background we told you that some countries place ice to ice but we also said salt is placed on ice on a hand –cranked ice cream maker. Doesn’t melting happen when the temperature of another thing (may it be air, water, or a solid) in contact is higher than the melting point of the substance (which is the ice which melts at any temperature higher than 0⁰C or 32⁰F) and the ice or snow on the road melts when it is in contact with ice faster so does it mean the salt makes things hotter but does it make that much of a difference, its already freezing cold on winter or on snowy areas? But wait let’s not forget the other statement; salt is placed on ice outside of the container of the ice cream to create the ice cream which we all like to eat so much, clearly the salt has something to do why the ice cream freezes, just imagine is we place ice on cooler and place beverages in the cooler also, we already know the…
