YMCA
"Young Men's Christian Association"
The YMCA is a organization made up of local and national groups and voluntary association. The YMCA was founded on June 6, 1844 in London, England by Sir George Williams. The goal of its founder was to put Christian principals into practice, achieved by developing "a healthy spirit, mind, and body." The YMCA has more than 45 million members worldwide and it is open to everybody, regardless of faith, social class, age or gender.
While the YMCA, better known in the USA as the "Y", is a great place to work out, play sports, swim, and to send children to summer camp. What the organization cares the most about is bringing people together and making a stronger community. Their slogan is "We Build Strong Kids, Strong Families, Strong Communities." The YMCA is all about bringing people together by providing support and opportunities to children and adults, whether motivating or helping one to fight against obesity and diabetes, to provide a good healthy environment for children or helping others in need . The YMCA enforces the importance on the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility through their programs.
The Organization is dedicated to the communities and their mission. However, none o this would be possible without the help, support and generosity of their hundreds of thousands of volunteers and public and private donations. Even though the YMCA is a non-profit organization, it charges a membership fee, priced on a sliding scale, based on the member's income. The revenue that these fees produce is used to cover the business expenses that the facility require on the daily basis (electric, water, payroll, etc) and the profit (what is left after paying the business expenses) is invested back into the organization to make improvements in the facility or in their programs.
