Achievements and challenges in South Asian countries for street children’s education and labor: A comparative study in India and Nepal.
Abstract Homelessness and child labor stands as enormous challenges to achieve succession of education and improvement in street children life. The rapid increase in number of homeless children in south Asian developing countries is a matter of great concern. Using multi-method approaches and multi-disciplinary study, this paper is undertaken for understanding the condition and role of education in street children of Nepal in comparison to India. Based on a result of different social organization and heterogeneous sampling for the street children in the major city of India and Nepal, this paper explores determinants of education and its problem with implementation to examine the improvement of street children’s life. Though there is dearth of literature focusing on street children in Nepal and India but most the available literature is descriptive and it seems to contribute very little towards the understanding of the problem and educational needs of street children. Only little successive program has happened from the local organization and states. It does not provide adequate framework for formulating further policy and designing invention or practice with the street children. Some non-government used the model which is coping from the developed countries and less effective to existing problem of South Asian street children.
