SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES

Why student’s used social networking sites. Firstly, social networking sites encourage students not to limit their social life by seeking friends around the world through networking. Students who have never met are able to share experiences and common interests. In addition, lifetime friendships can be built through social networking. According to a Science Daily article students state that social networking helps them to further improve and maintain friendships, make new friends and stay in touch with their family. This shows that overall social networking sites can be very influential when it comes to friendship. Secondly, every student is unique in their own way; some are able to express themselves openly while others are shy in nature. Social networking facilitates open communication, leading to enhanced information discovery and delivery. In addition, it does not require one to voice out their opinions and ideas. Students are able to choose the preferred option and that is to communicate through social networks. Furthermore, Social networking sites are mostly used for leisure and fun, it is where students are able to relax after a long and stressful day. Students are able to do certain things like chatting and posting photos. In an article by Watkins “There are some people who use these sites as a platform to meet long lost friend and batch matches, whereas there are others for whom it becomes a bridge to meet their future love.” Despite all the positive impacts stated on the use of social networks, it also has its negative impacts. One limitations of using social networking sites for students is it reduces learning and command over language and creative writing skills, students mostly use slang words or shortened forms of words on social networking sites.
