Assignment #5
Family Health History
Rory Litster
This assignment has a somewhat of a unique for my family and I, as I am only able to look at one side of my family for any medical history.   My father was adopted as a new born and in 1949 all adoption records were sealed and we are still unable to get information on my father’s birth parents. However, in discussing this topic with my parents the only health issue that seemed to be a generational thing was obesity.
As long as I can remember my parents, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, the majority of my cousins and my sisters have struggled with the “battle of the bulge”. My Grandfather died from undiagnosed form of diabetes, a heart condition, and high blood pressure that all were directly related with his lack of weight control and his unwillingness to do anything about it. This is the case for the majority of my family. The fact my mother’s family all eats unhealthy fattening foods and do not exercise at all which, has led to a lot of early deaths, and diseases.
My mother has high blood pressure, my father has diabetes, and my 3 sisters all have a form of both as they are all obese. This is a major a major cause of tension in my family as my brothers and I continually encourage them to exercise and to eat better as we do not want to lose them.
My sisters are very self -conscious about how they look, what they do, were they go, as they do not want to be looked down upon. It has limited those relationships with both sexes as they do not see themselves as attractive and not good enough.
This plays a huge role in my life as I get paranoid about myself, about my health and fitness not only me but my wife and my daughter. [continues]
