Soccer Vs. American Football
The first obviously similar between the American football and soccer is both of them are considered outdoors sports. They are being played at field with rectangle shape of grass. Not only the American football, but also soccer has being played between two teams, also each team has to have eleven players on the field, and each team is wearing special uniforms. Both sports have full contact and harmony between the players. Players have to contact and passing each other until they score goals as much as they can. And each team has to passing and running until they the last position of against field. The American football has one goal for each team whereas, soccer has. Both soccer and the American football have offensive players, defensive players, and one goalkeeper. Not only soccer, but also the American football has strategy to play. The first striking difference is the goal in soccer is ground goal. Conversely, the goal in the American football is hanging in the air. So that is mean scoring in the American football is much harder than scoring in soccer. American football players must wear helmet and body protectors, however, soccer is illegal to wear these. The most striking difference between the American football and soccer is the way to pass the ball. Soccer players must pass the ball by their legs, and passing by hand is not allowed for them except the goalkeeper. He can touch it with his hand only in his area. Unlike soccer, the American football players can pass the ball whatever they want, by hands or legs. The referees in both sports are quite distinct. Soccer should have five referees, one for the area, two for the offside, and the last two is outside and carefully watching the match. Scoring in the American football has three rules. One score has six points, other has three points, and the last has two points. However, soccer has one rule, which is one goal equal one point.

Although both codes are played on similar sized rectangular fields, the dimensions of rugby union fields can vary up to maximum size that is larger than the fixed size of American football fields. Rugby union fields are limited to a maximum length of 144 m long (and 100 m between goal lines) and width of 70 m, while American football fields have a fixed length of 120 yd (110 m) long and width of 160 ft (48.8 m). Both sets of measurements include scoring zones at each end. These are fixed to 10 yd and called the end zone in American football, but of unspecified length in rugby union.…

The other difference is the aim of the game. While football use touchdowns to score where the defense has to use every mean to stop the competing team from scoring. In this regard, a soccer team is considered as a whole. The defense depends on the team that has the ball at a time since some of the midfielders have to be involved in defense when the competing team is having the ball. In such a scenario, midfielders of the team that is controlling the ball will be acting as an offensive. In a soccer game, players strives to score a goal while in American football, it does not use goal as a way of scoring.…

In Soccer, the players have to wear uniforms which consist of shorts, shirts, socks, and cleats. For protection players only have shin guards to use and the goalkeeper has padded gloves to avoid injuries. There is additional equipment needed for this sport like flags and cones. Unlike American Football, the players have to wear much more gear than Soccer. The players also have to use a uniform. Therefore, football players are required to use football cleats, tight pants, and a jersey that states the player’s name, number, and team identity. Each jersey number categories the position of the player. The jersey needs to be larger in size so it can accommodate the shoulder pads that players use as protection for their upper body. There are other padding that protects the elbows, thighs, hip, tail, and knees. Even the head helmets and face mask which is secured to the head with a chin strap, that offers some head protection have some padding to prevent a concoction. Both sports require a use of a ball; however, the shape differs greatly. The round shaped ball is use in soccer and the oval shaped ball in football. Each ball has significance while playing game. The oval shaped thickness of the ball helps players get a better grip while tossing it to another to score a point. As opposed to, the round ball is kicked around from one player to another to make a…

The NFL and NCAA football have lots of things in common, but I like to lean toward the NFL for being better to watch. The National Football League (NFL) was founded in 1920, and only two teams currently in the NFL is the Decatur Stanleys now the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cardinals now the Arizona Cardinals. College football was founded on November 6, 1869, and it’s played by student athletes. They both have their good and bad with the rules but I love how the NFL rules are played out. It’s a difference how the players are ruled down in the leagues. To be ruled down in the NFL the runner must have been touched any sort of way by the opposing team. In college a player is down whenever any part of his body other than his hands or his feet…

Rugby and American football are very common with each other although there are a few differences between them. In each sport there is a required amount of padding each player must wear in order to be eligible to play on the field. Rugby, unlike football, only has a certain amount of plays that are legal. Regardless of the sport one it takes a great athlete to play and stay conditioned.…

Although they have some similarities there are also quite a few differences. First of all American football is played with an egg-shaped ball while soccer is played with a sphere shaped ball. Football players are usually large and strong due to the contact of the sport which requires them to wear padding to protect themselves, including shoulder pads, helmets, and padded pants. Soccer players are usually quite a bit smaller, a heck of a lot faster, and have to be very well conditioned. They only have shin guards as padding. Another major difference is scoring. In American football six points are awarded for a touchdown and one point for an extra point which occurs when a ball is kicked through the uprights after a touchdown. Three points are awarded for a field goal which is kicking the ball through the uprights. Also two points for a safety which occurs when an opposing player is tackled in his own end zone. Soccer scoring is only 1 point and it’s simply called a goal. The game…

Football over the Years Everything changes over time, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, and others you can’t really tell it has changed at all but in football you can easily tell the changes it has been through over the years. While all sports have changed over the years football seems to have changed the most dramatically from rules, equipment, stadium and even in the way we watch football today. When American football was born it was an all-white sport played with hardly no equipment for protection except for a leather helmet to protect your head, the game was played on hard dirt and as you can expect, injuries were constant and some deaths even occurred from the brutal hits and the missing component of protection equipment.…

Football is by far the main sport played and watched in the United States, and it is becoming more popular around the world. The history of the game dates all the way back to the eighteen hundred, with people who did not wear any equipment, to present day, having a thousand or more dollars of gear rigged onto their body. A lot of people are fans of a team or just fans of the game but many people do not know how much the game has evolved from such a simple and aggressive sport to a complex game that uses much more than just power and aggression, as current players have to use their brain to win games. Since football started the offense has evolved into many different offenses including tight and spread formations To understand the game…

Many compare the National Football League (NFL) with college football but the two are not extremely similar and should never be compared. Yes, besides a few minor rule changes the NFL and college football are the same game; but there is much more to football then the rules. College football is better than the NFL for a wide variety of reasons. First, there exists more passion in college football all around the sport. Passion cannot be measured in anyway but can be observed and understood by the fans, coaches, and sports community. Players care more about the game and less about money, while the fans have great passion for the university they attend or attended. The lack of an influence money has on the game is admirable. Also, tradition is so vast in college football a game day experience cannot be compared with those of the NFL. The special rivalry games and in stadium events makes college football great. Rivalries, passion, playing rules, and timing are few of the reasons why college football is better than the NFL. Along with great activities like tailgating, the wonderful scheduling, the entertainment, and the comeback friendly rules college football has the best case for why it is levels above the NFL.…

Football was putting America in a crisis when the sport first became popular (Majerol 18). Majerol reported that “In 1905, at least 18 high school and college boys died playing the sport, and more than 150 were seriously hurt” (18). Many injuries came because no protective gear was worn and the rules of the game were not strongly enforced (Majerol 18). People had played and gotten injured would suffer from concussions, broken limbs, spines (Majerol 18). The game of football was close to being banned, but former president, Theodore Roosevelt, was a fan of the game and kept football from being outlawed (Majerol 18). By time the 1870s rolled around football had been labeled as a blood sport (Majerol 18). Ordinary roughness in the sport usually…

Soccer, to me, is better because it is not as physical. An average 12 high school football players die each year, usually from a concussion or a big hit to the head. I could not even find how many soccer players die each year so i’m guessing none. Football players are more likely to get a concussion because they get hit in the head more than soccer players.…

On November 6, 1869, Rutgers and Princeton played what was billed as the first college football game. In 1876, a coach named Walter Camp, who is considered the “Father of American Football,” helped produce the first rules of American football. Now over 147 years later football is still a popular sport watched by millions of americans. American football is a sport played by two teams of eleven players who attempt to get a touchdown. Whoever scores a touchdown will gain six points for their team. The players use a football which is a oval shaped ball made from leather. American football as we know it originated from rugby played in Britain in the mid-19th century. The person who Americans consider the “Father of American Football” is Walter Camp. Professional football can be traced back to 1982, when there was a $500 contract for the Allegheny Athletic Association and the Pittsburgh Athletic Club to play a game against each other. Originally football was primarily a sport of the Midwestern industrial towns in the United State. In 1902, the American Professional Football Association was formed and two years later the National Football League. The competition was fierce between the two leagues, which led the two leagues to merge. Football eventually became national. When the two leagues merged is when…
