What would it be like to be one of the most famous people in all of England? In the novel A Proud Taste For Scarlet and Miniver by E.L. Konigsburg Eleanor of Aquitaine finely demonstrates what is like be famous and how a person can grow and change from extraordinary expenses. Eleanor was the very rich daughter of the ruler of Aquitaine and when her father, William died Eleanor was sent to marry the rich and powerful king Louis VIII. However, this marriage brought trouble to the King Louis's family. Eleanor's mother-in-law Adelaide did not like her for several reasons, which caused her to leave Paris. After this there were more problems with Louis trying to please Eleanor and this caused him to make some bad decisions which resulted in him getting excommunicated from the church. After this event Louis turned to god for help and tried to make up for is sins. This activity brought his marriage to a divorce and Eleanor went on to marry King Henry II. This happened to be a great relationship and lasted for a long, long time. Although they already had plenty of land Henry and Eleanor did not think twice to claim their right to the throne in England. After their land situation was settled they had 8 children, 5 boys and 3 girls, but William the first son died early. Their children were named William, Henry, Richard, Geoffrey, John, Matilda, Eleanor, and finally Joanna. Right after this King Louis had a new daughter born and Eleanor decided to betroth young Henry to her. King Henry put Chancellor Thomas Becket in charge of raising Henry and Marguerite. Since Thomas Becket was doing such a great job King Henry moved him up to archbishop and he resigned as chancellor. This made Henry very mad and he took back the 2 children. A large feud between Becket and Henry started to boil up. Henry started to forget about this and move on.
