Energy is requirement of every country in today’s world. It has become a basic need of almost every human being. Energy has different forms for example, mechanical energy, solar energy, nuclear energy and so on. Another form of energy is electricity. Electricity is used to light our houses, offices, schools, buildings, streets and so on. Its importance increases when there is no sunlight available. This type of energy can be used in light bulbs, street lights and so on. As the energy has become an important…
In terms of electric power average monthly consumption, industrial connection is the highest of 28,145 kWh followed by commercial of 856 kWh and residential of 193 kWh. Beside the production of electricity and distributing it to whole city there is still areas who are not reached by the power including the Indigenous Community who are far from the nearest electricity resource. The project can provide electricity to these communities and help to the productivity of the city,…
These devices are the “brains” of the smart grid system. They create a virtual energy network – collecting data from “smart meters” installed at the end user locations as well as data from other digital equipment on the power lines, then send it over a wireless network back to Duke Energy and then back to the customer. The “smart meters” installed at the end user locations give the communication nodes, installed on the transformers, something to talk about. Valuable data about a home or business usage is in constant streaming mode to Duke Energy. This data allows Duke to lower or raise production during high or low usage times. Without the Smart Grid, Duke’s output is at best a guessing game, and in fact during the day, up to 30% of electricity produced by Duke can go…

In some major oil producing nations, peak oil has already been reached, and there are increasing fears of global warming. Consequently, many countries are focusing on the switch to a low carbon economy. This transition will lead to major changes in the supply and use of electricity. Firstly, there will be an increase in overall demand, as consumers switch from oil and gas to electricity to power their homes and vehicles. Secondly, there will be an increase in power generation, not only in terms of how much is generated, but also how it is generated, as there is growing electricity generation from renewable sources. To meet these challenges, countries are investing in Smart Grid technology. This system aims to provide the electricity industry with a better understanding of power generation and demand, and to use this information to create a more efficient power…
The smart grid enables information to flow back and forth between electric power providers and consumers and…
Energy companies provide power to consumers, but the consumers are using that energy, making it difficult to develop more efficient approaches to distribution.…
This paper clarifies the value of using smart grid technology. It shade a light on different challenges connected to smart grids that are faced in the world and the solution to manage those problems. The paper also talks about the three key technological components of Smart Grid that includes Personal Energy Management, Distribution Automation, and Advanced Metering Infrastructure. The flow then demonstrate the adoption toward smart grid technology. Moreover, the paper sums up with explanation of the demand for smart grid capability with respect to security issues. Finally demonstrate briefly the key players in smart grid.…

The global market for smart meters is expected to reach USD 22,177 million by 2020, according to a new study by Grand View Research, Inc. Smart meters provide two-way communication and benefits including time-based rates, faster power outage detection and resolution, and dynamic pricing among others. Initiatives by regulatory authorities to establish smart grids and ensure energy efficiency are expected to be a considerable growth driver over the forecast period.…
The regular electricity infrastructure in the US provides power to consumers, but does not information on how the consumers are using the energy when the smart grids are. It uses digital technology to save energy, reduce costs, and increase reliability and transparency. Without the smart grids, the electricity infrastructure is outdated and inefficient.…
The project “Automated Electricity Meter” aims to move away from the traditional method of manual reading of electricity meters in which an individual has to physically record the reading. Instead the project proposes to successfully be able to take the meter reading automatically without having a person be physically present while taking the reading, thereby reducing manpower requirement. This system helps the users by alerting them about the peak loads (max energy consumption), power status (ON/OFF), billing status etc. The voice alerts could be in any local language. Hence this system can be used across the world. The typical voice alerts are “Over load”, “Pay electricity bill”, “Turn off the lights” etc. This system also consists of a LCD display that continuously displays the energymeter readings in real-time. This consists of Real-time clock for calculating the average, max and minimum readings with respect to time. This information is display on a LCD display. As the project name suggests, the vision of our project is to create an automated environment for the purpose of meter readings and thus reduce the dependency on human resources. Thus the Talking Energymeter/Smart energymeter would be the an interactive representative of the company for the purpose of taking readings without involving human error.…
