Sleepy Hollow

Ichabod Crane is the main character in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. He is described as tall, but exceedingly lank, with narrow shoulders, long arms and legs, hands that dangle a mile out of his sleeves, feet that might have served for shovels. He had a small head with huge ears. He owned a large one-room schoolhouse in New York. As the schoolmaster, he educated the children of the neighboring area. He was also the singing-master of the neighborhood.   He is more educated and sophisticated than the residents of the neighboring villages. His profession did not produce a great deal of income.   He is described as a man with a huge appetite, which required him to find ways to eat.   It was through his kindness that he would find his meals. He was only friendly so that the people would offer him food. His kindness was not genuine.   He used the people of the town to fulfill his appetite. In addition he would help the town folk with some of their daily chores. However, again, this was not done out of kindness. But, out of his   own selfish reasons. He attempts to win the peoples’ appreciation in order to get their approval. He attempts to act brave. But, in actuality allows his imagination about the tales of ghost to make him nervous and weak.   Ichabod has taken quite a liking to Katrina Van Tassel.   He makes it his mission to try to win her over. He uses his dancing and singing skills to win Katrinas heart.   He only has one rival that he worries about.   Ichabod knows that Brom Van Brunt also likes Katrina and he to is attempting to win her over.
      Brom Van Brunt looks nothing like Ichabod Crane. Brom is said to be large with broad-shouldered, strong, rough, humorous, good-natured and powerfully built. He is known throughout the country as a hardy young man with dark, curly hair and a handsome, rugged face. He is well known for his skill as a horseman.
