I wish to say this though while writing this narrative, though people may look at sleeping on duty as gross misconduct and or negligeance, they're those in their designated fields of work that intend to have good faith to stay attentive and alert, but accidently doze…
“The Sleep” by Caitlin Horrocks basically tell you about the people in the small town of Bounty. Protagonist Albert Rasmussen wife was killed by a drunk driver on an icy road. In this town the people looked up to Albert Rasmussen because he was smart and decided to stay in Bounty after graduation. Albert had gathered the whole town over in his family room to have a discussion. This discussion took place “…before the cameras, before the sleep, before the outsiders, and the plan sounded as strange to us as it would to anybody” (Horrocks 104). This literally means that they didn’t have anything much technology and before they actually decided to sleep. In this short story “The Sleep” sleep is a symbol to many things such as hibernation, separation, death.…
When you are on guard you are responsible for everything that occurs within the limits of your post while you are on duty. You are also responsible for all equipment and property located within the limits of your post. The exact limits of your post are defined by the special orders. The special orders should also include every place a guard must go to perform your duties. You will investigate every unusual or suspicious occurrence on or near your post provided that you do not have to leave your point of duty to do so. If necessary, you or the NCO who is on guard with you will contact the chain of command for instructions. While on guard you will remain at your place of duty and continue to perform all duties required until you are relieved by proper authority. If a guard requires relief because of sickness or for any other reason, you to notify your chain of command and wait until you are replaced by another guard or you have permission from the proper authorities to leave your point of duty. If you are not relieved when your time of duty is up, you do not abandon your post. Sleep is a big part of one’s psychological health. Without sleep, many of our essential cognitive functions would begin to deteriorate. Factors like mood, comprehension, and many more are affected by the lack of sleep in an exceptionally large way. Due to the fact that in humans, we are exceptionally vulnerable mentally as we are physically. Many of us begin to put our well-being in harm’s way by receiving a reduced amount of sleep when compared to the average needed. As illustrated in, Sleep Thieves, Stanley Coren presents an experiment conducted in 1964 by a seventeen year old named Randy Gardner who became the world’s record holder for the longest amount of time spent awake without stimulants. The book, Sleep Thieves, begins to explain…
Stress has many effects on the policing community as a whole. After recording my sleep for a whole week I came to some realizations that I should probably go to bed a little earlier. Though in an regular week, full of classes, exams, and other events I was able to average a little under 8 hours. There were nights that I was only able to squeeze in a little under 6 hours. I was able to go home that weekend, so you can see that I obviously sleep better there than I do in my dorm bed, I was able to catch up on sleep and get way over the recommended amounts. I do think that I get a decent amount of sleep when you average it out, but when you start to look at it separately the nights that I was only allowed 5 or so hours were really rough days for me.…

There are many things that can interrupt our sleep in a negative way. But technology is probobly the worst. Our phones emit small amounts of radiation, none that can kill us, but harm the way we sleep and certain functions of the body. "Prolonged exposure to the radio frequency (RF) energy that cell phones emit adversely affects sleep and severely disrupts sleep patterns" (Better Health News). Even when our phones are not in their active state they can give off electromagnetic radiation that can put off our sleep up to 3 hours. Studies have shown and tested on both men and women that cell phone use before bed can Prolong sleep up to 3 hours. Before bed people shouldn't sleep right next to their phone, putting it farther away will decrease the chance of sleep disruption and any harm to your body. Wherever we go we have our phones, they now replace certain technologies that can easily be accessed through a smart phone such as the alarm clock, and with that we are now forced to sleep with our phones, That doesn't mean we should though. "Radiation interferes with our body’s ability to repair itself from any damage suffered throughout the day"(Prerna Talreja). the constant need to check our applications at night is extremely tempting, especially when it's right next to you. The more your on it the less sleep you can get and the greater chance of long term harm to your body. The radiation affects certain areas in which our bodies deal with injury or self maintenance. If our body can't repair itself from any damage, how can you live a healthy life. Cell phones are not good to be on before bed, serious conditions can occur such as sleep deprivation. The longer we put off sleep due to the constant distraction of modern technology, the more miserable our lives will become.…

Off Duty Police Officers Challenges: Crime Response. There are some challenges when being an off-duty police officer. There are times when police officers living in large cities, working in other precincts may not know each other, especially out of uniform. As it was stated before Vigilance on Duty can mean life or death in the military. If you are on Guard and fall asleep the Enemy could sneak in and kill you and your battle buddies without even a challenge. Vigilance on Radio duty means that you don’t miss important information coming it from far off units or battle buddies calling for rescue or backup and support. In the aid station vigilance may mean the ability to save lives by reacting quickly in the first few seconds of a critically wounded casualty’s arrival. And the few tenths of a seconds advantage vigilance makes in a firefight can mean the difference between landing your rounds and shooting thin air. Vigilance on duty means that you are aware of and ready to respond to current and changing conditions with regard to your duty. Noticing and responding to changes in the weather, schedule shifts, vehicle maintenance problems, and even things like allergic reactions or choking are examples of vigilance in…
