Slavery has corrupted many societies in our entire nation. It has caused millions to do work on their hands and knees for money, for debts, or paying dues. Every town in America and residing nation contains a jail cell. Whenever people are confronted with rules, and if they don’t follow those rules, there’s a consequence. African Americans were not always on those terms. Slavery started 71-73 B.C.E when tens of thousands of Roman slaves revolted, led by Thracian gladiator Spartacus leaving thousands crucified along the way. Although slavery ended in 1948 through the Declaration of Human Rights which states in Article 4 “No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms’, there are many years of heart-ache, scars, and pain that the world has subdued between the beginning of time and the ending of slavery. From large plantations, to the fighting in the Civil War, slaves have underwent horrible lives. Imagine being a slave, playing games, telling jokes or falling in love, what would have life been like? Would it be something that you would want to go through during your life? Everyone feels entrapment at times but do it all really call for slavery? Africa may have a lot to do with slavery but what is Africa like now? How does this cash crop, diamond and gold mine filled nation stand in the 20th century and was it really a place where African Americans can call their ‘home”.
