Single-Sex Schools over Coed School

Have you ever considered studying in a single sex school when you are about to enter high school? If not, maybe your parents did. Most of the time, parents are having a tough time choosing the school where they will send their children to. One of the most common issues that rise in the decision-making process in choosing school is whether they will send their child into a single sex school or coeducational school. In the technical sense, the difference between the two schools only lies on the gender/s accepted in the institution. Besides that, there is nothing much different. Single sex school or usually branded as ‘exclusive school’ is a school type which is open only for either boys or girls. On the other hand, a coeducational school which is often tagged as ‘coed’, ‘mixed’ and ‘heterogeneous’ is a school type which accepts both boys and girls. Knowing both school types is not enough as one makes a decision. Observing the strengths and weaknesses that one school type has over the other must also be sternly taken into consideration. As I try to answer the issue regarding what school type is more preferable, I came up with a stand and that is – the single sex school. The proceeding paragraphs will show the different claims about coed schools and my rebuttals about single sex school as being a better option. Single sex schools provide better education and character formation than coed schools. Advocates of coed schools claim that coed settings gives its students the opportunity to adapt different learning styles since both male and female students can learn from each other’s approaches and learn to collaborate, each bringing their style to bear in working for common goals (Educationbug, n.d.). Does this mean that a person cannot learn from another person with the same gender? The advocates may have a point in their claim but they must have taken into consideration that a person has his or her unique way of learning no matter what gender he or she is interacting...
