Single Parenting: Not as bad as they think

The concept of single parenting has been around for quite some time now.
As a single parent myself it irritates me when many people talk about single parenting being negative and immediately associate the “true parent” as being irresponsible or worse. In today’s society single parenting is becoming very common in both men and women. While some have been forced to be single parents, whether it’s through divorce or abandonment, others have chosen this path for a good reason. That does not necessarily mean they are or will be irresponsible parents and that their children will suffer. On the contrary, a single parent can be just as successful in life as everyone else.
The majority of single parents are very good parents even than those with partners. It is true that a lot of people say children of single parents will have social and emotional problems. Those factors all depend on the way they are raised and most importantly the way the parent approaches the topic of not having the other parental figure around. It has been observed that such children, if raised to be independent and confident, lead a very normal life and also succeed professionally.
If one finds themselves as a single parent, the best thing to do is tell the children the truth . If the child is very young, we do not want to damage their mind. It’s better to tell them that they do have a mother or father and will explain when they are older. Once they are teens and have the ability to reason we can tell them what happened but should always avoid saying anything negative about anyone in a way that would poison their minds. One thing I have noticed about single mothers is that despite that their partner abandoned them when they were expecting, because the father wanted no responsibility, they still give the baby the fathers last name which can cause big problems.
