The Simplicity in Development   From the moment a child is born, it goes through a growing process known as development. A child will develop physically, emotionally, cognitively, and socially. There are many ways to help a child develop. The most effective way is to use their playtime. From preschool to middle childhood, the majority of a child’s time is spent playing and, therefore, most of a child’s development takes place during playtime. Toys play a big part in a child’s playtime. Even the simplest toys like a toy car, a memory/matching game, or a board game can greatly influence a child’s development.   Physical development involves the development of motor skills, and even though most toys can help in this area, a toy car can help to develop these skills best. Having to grab and hold the car in order to move it helps the child to gain control of its hands and arms. Playing with a toy car can also help with crawling as it is needed to increase the range of play. When playing with a toy car, infants will exhibit primary circular reactions by moving the car back and forth over and over again. As they get older toddlers may use the car to incorporate it into lager scales of play, exhibiting tertiary circular reactions and possibly deferred imitation. While playing with a toy car helps a child develop physically, it does very little to help the child develop emotionally, socially, or cognitively.   A memory/matching game can help with cognitive development. The largest amount of development will be the memory. The child will have to use his recall memory to remember where the matching pieces were and recognition to match the pieces using colors and shapes. Another development would be that the child will learn object permanence. The child will learn that when you turn the card over the image on the other side doesn’t go away.
