SILLIMAN UNIVERSITY 111th FOUNDERS/HIBALAG FESTIVAL 2012
Silliman University once again celebrate its 111th Founders Week since it was established way back August 28, 1901. This year’s celebration is empowered by the THEME: EMPOWER ME -- SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD and a theme VERSE: My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9-10). Founders Day is a week-long event, conducted by the Silliman community to commemorate the founding of the University. This celebration is characterized with many events just like the class reunions, alumni, fraternity and organizational gatherings, concerts, exhibits, booth-building, and awarding ceremonies. The parade is referred to as the "Parada Sillimaniana" is referred to as the "Founders Day" in honor of the pioneers August 27. Traditionally, the parade is characterized by the use of floats, with each float representing a particular college, department, or school as well as alumnus/alumna floats of Silliman University. This week long celebration commenced by an early morning worship service called, "Sunrise Service", at the Silliman University Church, and culminated with a city-wide parade held on the anniversary of the University's founding, August 28. On top of the above named activities, one of the essential recipe in baking the founders week celebration into a fun-filled and memorable event is the “HIBALAG BOOTH FESTIVAL”. The opening of the Hibalag Booth Area was started by a “Torch Parade” which the same signals the start of the week long festivities. Hibalag booth area is a place where campus organizations put up displays depicting their groups’ mission and objectives. It is filled with several activities from talent shows to live bands all night long. Closing ceremony were also held in the same area on August 29, 2012.
