I believe that females should be able to get birth control without asking their parents for permission. If teens were able to do this it would reduce the number of teen pregnancies, teens will have a safer home life, and shows that they are responsible. Many things can happen when a teen is uneducated about safe sex for example, teens are less likely to use a condom properly, and condom slippage and leakage is higher in younger users. This means if girls were on Birth Control, they would be having safer sex by reducing the chance of getting pregnant. Many teens are afraid of being disowned when parents find out that they are having sex. Most teens don’t want their parents knowing that they are having sex plus some parents will say no to them having sex. Some teens are mature enough to take precaution towards having safer sex, they are smart enough to think ahead to get birth control. Many teens are scared to go to a parent and would rather get it on their own. The writer of “Birth- control access irks conservatives” points out that “Family planning groups say that notifying parents would rip away traditional confidentiality of the program”. Teens might be afraid to come in for help. Teens may or may not have parental permission to become sexually active that’s why this topic is so difficult to prevent. I feel they should not be discouraged from doing what’s responsible. Therefore Doctors respect confidentiality. The goal to teens getting birth control without parental permission is to encourage sexually active teens to use regular birth- control methods. It’s a doctor’s responsibility to explain the health risks and a teenage girl should have the freedom to choose to be on birth control or not. Some girls may not be open about their sex life to their parents because they are not comfortable with talking about sex, but they are smart enough to choose to be on birth control. It shows they are responsible and mature for going and getting birth control on their own. I believe that if a female no matter the age starts to have sex, then they should be allowed to be smart enough to get birth control on their own. All in all teenage girls should be allowed to get birth control on their own without a parents’ permission because it reduces teen pregnancy, they have a safer home life, and shows they can be responsible and mature.
