Should sex education be taught in public schools?
My Position: PRO
Should sex education be taught in schools? There had been vast amounts of debates regarding this growing issue. It’s been said that sexual education only devours the morality of students because they believe that sexual education teaches students about how sexual intercourse is enacted. Although sexual education is a difficult subject matter to teach, students it’s crucial that it’s taught by educated individuals because, it will bring awareness of the risks, avoid pregnancy at young ages, and it gives children the idea of what is right and what is wrong. First of all, teenage pregnancy is a horrifying due to the fact they aren’t ready to provide for a child besides themselves. According to Canadian statistics, a total of 30,535 infants were born to 15-19 year olds, for a live birth rate of 29.2 per 1,000 women amongst this age group in 2005. Teenage pregnancy have two main outcomes, it either leads to a life of poverty or lack of education. Teenagers who become young mothers are more likely to drop out of school. However, educational related goal setting can help reduce the likelihood of teen pregnancy. For example, planning to graduate from high school and moving towards university to study accounting is affiliated with a lower risk of teen pregnancy. Mother, child, and society have consequences of the pregnancy. After enduring the financial hardships of parental hood as a youth in society, you tend worry to about the life that your precious child will have. The second reason that sexual education should be taught in school is the risk of receiving sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS. Children must be aware of the danger they are putting themselves in by committing to sexual intercourse at a young age.
