Should salary be the most important factor in choosing career
Should salary be the most important factor in choosing career?
Nowadays, many graduates consider salary as a key factor when they are looking for a job. They turn down many job opportunities due to low salary and set their minds to get a high-salary job. Should salary be the most important factor in choosing career?

In my opinion, I don't think salary should be the most important factor in choosing a career. People may neglect many other things that worth to pursue in one's life if they put salary as the most important factor in choosing career. In fact, many people choose to fulfill their life goals and give up the job opportunity with highest salary.

Admittedly, financial condition is the foundation for any other activities. However, it doesn't mean that everybody should regard it as the most important factor in life. After all, money is just a way satisfy our basic life needs. We still have so many needs that money can fulfill. Such as families, interests and dreams.

In addition, some job positions may just appears to be with low salary. On the other hand, these positions may have great potentials. Such as chance for promotion, training opportunity, good work environment, excellent corporate culture and reputation and comprehensive welfare system.

In conclusion, I think the best career choice is the combination of personal interests and financial benefits. If people choose a career that they don't like, they may be impatient and blundering when they are at work. Only doing what they like or interest can people improve their working efficiency and working performance.

I do think pay is the primary factor, benefits will not pay the bills; many jobs such as child care, teaching etc. to not pay much, but most will probably look for the best pay they can get in a particular field. If by chance benefits are offered then it would depend on the individual need such as health care-for someone that need might be greater to have the benefit and a little less pay. Sometimes I think existing employees stay even with lack of pay and/or benefits for fear of not being able to get something better.…

While taking my Work Values Assessment, I discovered that income is of low to medium importance in my life. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the average hourly income for a cosmetologist is $11.40 per hour and $23,710 per year (“Barbers, Hairdressers, and Cosmetologists”). Most people would never choose this job because it is below par on the money scale, but this stereotypical assumption does not apply to me. Money isn’t one of the most important things to me because I would rather be doing something that I love everyday to make a lower amount of money, than doing something I despise for the rest of my life to earn a superb livelihood. With the amount I will make, I will be able to provide financial support for my family, while also being in love with what I do, and that is what is most important to…
