Should Pupils Have To Wear Uniform?
Students To Wear Uniform

School uniforms were first introduced in England during the 16th Century at the charity schools for poor children. Overtime, schools saw uniforms as a way to bring students together, studies were carried out showing there is no relationship between school uniforms and academic achievement, however there was between school uniforms and behavior of students. This has brought debate between whether uniforms improve academic success while reducing violence or not.

It is widely argued on whether school students, should be wearing a uniform. There are many advantages but also some disadvantages to having to wear a school uniform.

One of the main advantages of having a uniform is that it can make a person look smart and respectable, can remind students of how they should behave around others students and adults in charge as well as making them realise more about their responsibility as a student.

When out of school those with uniform give people the impression that they are well educated and responsible, where as those not in uniform give the impression they may not have even been to school as they are dressed in casual clothes. In addition, when schools have a non-uniform day, it can be more exciting because its a day where students can show off their non-school clothes. Many students can also feel more inspired when they wear uniform as it looks more academically pleasing.

When all students wear similar clothing, so no ones feel as if they don't look good enough or that they have to impress anyone. Students would be under stress trying to buy new clothes every week or month to impress their classmates if uniform was not in place. Having a uniform is beneficial to certain people as they may not be as well off as other and won't be able to afford new clothes all the time..

Majority of people debate that their uniforms are too boring and limit personal expression, style or individuality. Studnents use they way they dress to express themselves and to identify with certain social groups. Many students who are against school uniforms argue that they lose their self identity when they lose their right to express themselves through fashion. Every individual is different but having to wear similar clothing does not show this.

Students are very specific about what they are comfortable wearing, some are sensitive to certain materials while others are opposed to buttons, zippers and restrictive clothing as well as being uncomfortable wearing certain styles of clothing.
Girls in particular may not like wearing skirts or dresses due to body issues or not wanting to wear that type of clothing or feel comfortable in them. While others may not want to wear trousers as they feel like it looks too much like what a boy wears.

Some schools have several uniforms such as everyday uniforms, formal uniforms for special occasions and another uniform for P.E. parents argue that buying uniforms for all their children each year and sometimes throughout the school year is hard on the family budget, especially if families have to buy more than one uniform.

Continuing with the fact some schools have several uniforms parents may find it hard knowing exactly what uniform or certain parts need to be washed, dried and ironed for monday morning or even the next day. Parents are busy enough and might not have time to get clothes washed and ready so not having a uniform does not put this stress on them as their child has a whole wardrobe of clothes to wear to school.

To conclude there are many advantages and disadvantages to wearing a school uniform, many being personal opinion. Whether its not liking the look of them and not feeling individual and restricted or because its smart and easy to pull out the wardrobe and put on every day without having to worry about what clothing brands you have.

Another benefit of having a school uniform is that you wont have students constantly violating the dress code to get attention. Same thing for guys, they constantly brake dress codes because they think it makes them look like they have "swag." I think its a bad look for SWL when there are a handful of students who are insecure with…

Having a school uniform will promote learning since school uniforms lessen distractions taking place in the classroom. According to the article “Appearances are Destructive” author Mark Mathabane describes how teachers have shared their frustrations with being unable to teach students willing to learn because they are constantly being disrupted by other students who are concerned about their appearance. These students become so involved in how they look, that they are disturbing the whole class, with careless acts such as combing their hair, changing clothes, comparing labels, and asking other students for their opinion. With a dress code, students are less likely to be distracted by their appearance, and can concentrate on learning. A 2010…
