Shemela and Zeus
A long time ago there were gods and goddesses that helped the world work. They controlled the harvest, the weather, the tides in the ocean, the plants and the trees, and many other things. Shemela, the Sea Goddess was a very beautiful woman; she had shoulder length hair the color of liquid sunshine, a brilliant blonde. Her eyes were deep seaweed green. Shemela had many dresses, some were light blue and flowed like an ocean wave, some were an amazing purple like a sea urchin from the not very deep depths of the ocean, but the dress she had on that day was a tantalizing magenta with silver swirls on the bottom. It was floor length and had short flows of fabric for sleeves. Shemela’s friend Pam, the Earth Goddess, joined her for fruit picking that day. They were going to pick many tropical fruits from the Garden of Eden to make Zeus’s favorite fruit salad. All of the Gods raved about the perfect sweet and sour mix of the recipe Shemela had made up. Shemela and Zeus were very much in love, and Shemela thought the salad would be a perfect showing of her affection for him because the salad takes hours to make, because it has so many steps to it. Although Zeus was the God of all Gods, he was a simple and quiet God. He was very much in love with Shemela and wanted to propose to her but didn’t know how, when he heard from Pam that Shemela and her were going to pick fruits for his favorite salad he knew that would be the perfect time to propose. Pam knew that this was to be the night that Zeus was going to profess his love for Shemela and ask for her hand in marriage so she wanted it to be perfect and that’s why she was going to help pick fruits with Shemela. Also, Pam makes a killer vanilla apple pie and wanted to get some of the amazing apples from the Garden of Eden to make it. Pam was so excited to get her apples and about her best friend getting married she almost burst! The ground was growing flowers everywhere she walked because she was thinking about the flowers that would be at the wedding, there were lily’s, daisies, tulips, roses, babies breath, iris, orchids, peonies, lilac, freesia, verbenas, gerberas, daffodils and many more. Shemela couldn’t help but laugh, she didn’t know why Pam was thinking about flowers but it was clear she was. When they arrived to pick fruit at the Garden of Eden, Demor the Devil King was waiting for them. He had over heard Pam telling Zeus where they were going through a crack in the ground that led to the underworld where Demor Lived. Demor grabbed Shemela and drug her onto his golden black chariot. Shemela shrieked in terror as they flew up into the Heavens. She fought back as hard as she could but Demor was too strong. Pam started screaming for help but no one was around. Pam ran as fast as she could to go tell Zeus what had happened. Zeus was terrified that he would never see his beloved again. He vowed to rescue his love, no matter how badly he got hurt.

Zeus had the power of lightning, but Demor had the power of fire. Demor was also stronger than Zeus. Zeus feared that there was nothing that he could do to save Shemela. He would not give up, so he flew up higher and higher into the Heavens to search for Shemela and Demor, but they weren’t anywhere to be seen. Zeus was broken hearted; he knew he would never see his love again. As he lowered his head in defeat he looked upon the earth and saw Demor standing on huge red – orange rocks. Demor had a sickly smile on his face he was waiting for Zeus. Zeus yelled at his lighting horses and snapped the reigns; the lightning horses exploded through the sky and plummeted toward the Earth. When Zeus got to Earth, he was unable to find Shemela anywhere.
He yelled at Demor “Where is my love, Shemela?!”
This infuriated Demor and he replied, “Shemela is mine, and you can’t have her back unless you fight me and win! She is MY love! And will NEVER be yours again Little Brother Lighting!” You see, Demor was in love with Shemela and didn’t want his little brother, Zeus, to have her.

Demor then hurled a fireball at Zeus that was the color of the hottest drop of lava ever to be seen by a mortal or god. It missed Zeus by inches, but it burned him badly. As Zeus was trying to recover, he heard a scream from the Heavens it was Shemela. She was crying like she had never cried before and her tears were coming out of her eyes millions at a time. Zeus was so happy his dearly beloved was safe, his heart healed. He then made clouds cover her so that she would not have to watch the battle and flood the world even more with her tears that fell to earth.

Once Zeus knew that Shemela was safe, his strength returned and he hurled a lightning bolt at Demor and hit him. Demor fell and Zeus ran to his chariot to fly up to the Heavens and get Shemela. He did not want to fight his brother, but Demor made it obvious that rage over the years had built up inside him and he was finally letting it out. Demor, still dazed from the lightning bolt, hopped up and threw a fireball at Zeus. This cut the reins from the chariot and sent the chariot falling back to earth and the lighting horses were flying free now. Zeus fell from the sky not moving, Shemela screamed in terror as Zeus fell to his death. She could only see glimpses of her love though the clouds, but she could see that he was going to die. Demor thought that he had won and was gloating, but Zeus sent another lightning bolt and hit Demor straight in the heart. The shock stopped Demor’s heart cold. Demor’s heart restarted, and with this, Demor returned into a mortal. Zeus had won. He called his lighting horses to catch him as he fell from the sky to earth.

Zeus cleared the clouds and flew back up to the Heavens and saw his beloved still crying. Her tears that fell to Earth rounded out the holes and crevices in the red - orange rock from the battle and flowed out to the sea. This made the oceans even deeper and longer then they are today. Also, there were so many tears they flooded the earth and created smaller continents. The red-orange rock turned into the Grand Canyons in the years that passed. All Shemela could choke out was “I love you”. Zeus was so happy his beloved was safe he could barely say “I love you” back.

After Zeus saved Shemela they told Pam that they were safe and went home. Shemela told Zeus to sit on the counter to get the best look at the burn. As Shemela patched up Zeus scratches and burns, he gazed into her eyes deep green eyes. He thought they were beautiful even though they were still red and puffed up a little from crying so much. He thought that he loved everything about her and that he wanted to live the rest of his life with her. He kissed her lips without her expecting it. Zeus pulled away and took something out of his pocket; Shemela couldn’t see it quick enough before he jumped off the counter and got down on one knee. He said “Shemela, I love you with all my heart and I want to be with you forever. After everything that’s happened today I have seen that if I lost you I would die inside and I would never find anyone like you ever again. Shemela?” “Yes Zeus?” “Will you marry me and be mine?” “Yes a million times over.” swooned Shemela.

The next morning Shemela woke up and looked over at Zeus and saw him watching her sleep. “Your face is so peaceful when you’re sleeping.” he said. She smiled and sat up in bed. She looked at her left hand and the gorgeous white diamond on it as well. She thought, “I truly love him.” She got out of bed and walked into the bathroom and looked at her face, “Still puffy from yesterday…how is that possible?” She thought. She giggled, turned the water on cold and got a washcloth to put on her eyes.

Zeus went into the kitchen and got some breakfast and thought that they should probably tell their parents that he had asked her to marry him. Zeus had asked Shemela’s Dad for her hand in marriage and he had been happy to say yes. Shemela’s parents liked Zeus very much. Not just because he was the God of all Gods, but “Because he is a good man and had a good personality. He will be good to you, and he will be able to provide for a family if you have one. Which we hope you do!” Shemela had told him what they had said about him. His parents would be easy to tell also. He talked to them about it to. When Shemela came in to the kitchen she sat down and asked him what he wanted to do today. He said he didn’t know but he did. He wanted to wait to see when she wanted to tell her parents.

Later in the day they decided to have a dinner that night with Pam and both their parents. When everyone arrived they were chitchatting with one another and snacking on appetizers. The food was delicious and everyone was happy. They sat down for dinner and had a wonderful feast of 5 courses.
1st There was butternut squash presented with a seared sea scallop and young sprout seedlings.
2nd Was a Fruit Salad presented with smoked almonds and 15 fruits with a pineapple sauce on top.
3rd Course was roasted beet presented with seared goat cheese, balsamic vinagrete and lettuce greens.
4th Course was a grilled filet of beef, presented with shallots, white asparagus and chantrell mushrooms.
5th The final course Desert, favorite part of everyone’s meal, was Vanilla apple pie with iced choclate marinated berries on top. Pam made the desert and it was Deliscious. When Desert was almost over Shemela and Zeus stood up and made the announcement that they had everyone come to there home fto hear. “Ting.Ting. We have and anousment to make to everyone” they looked at each other. “Zeus proposed to me ..and I said Yes!” Everyone yelled and whistled and they were so happy that they were together as a family.

One similarity between the myths of the Navajos and Greeks is that they both believe that their gods or deities created earth, and believe in anthropomorphic deities. Among the stories of the Native American tribes and greek mythology, the “themes of water appear to play a big factor in the wiping out of evil” (Hamilton 84). The water is symbolizes the cleansing and action of purifying the world. In Navajo myths, many gods worked together along with a few mortal beings to create Earth. Meanwhile, in Greek mythology, it was mainly Zeus who created Earth with the aid of” his five brothers and sisters”(Hamilton 83). Nowhere in Greek mythology have humans helped the Gods create planet Earth. It was only the Gods and powerful creatures that created the world we live in now.…

In greek mythology, Zeus was the king of the gods, or the head honcho as some may call it. He was the god of the heavens, and weather. This gave him the power to shoot lightning and thunder when in battle. Zeus and his two brothers, Poseidon and Hades, were born from the Titans. But before they were born, Cronus, the king of the titans learned that his children were fated to dethrone him. Using this information, he had the great idea of swallowing the three gods immediately after birth. But Rhea, their mother, wrapped a stone in a blanket instead of Zeus, and hid him in a cave on the island of crete. There he was nursed by a nymph and guarded by the Curetes, who clashed their weapons to hide the babies cries. After Zeus grew to be a man, he…
