Detailing the Effectiveness of a Sexual Health Campaign

Sex education has become an important focus in regards to the health of young adults across the world. It attempts to inform these young adults about sex, relationships, and intimacy in hopes to prepare them to make safe, informed choices throughout their lives. Sex education is intended to help develop young people’s mindset, so they make informed decisions in social and sexual situations. It aims to reduce the possible risks that come with the territory of sexual behaviors such as unplanned pregnancies, or sexually transmitted diseases. There have been many campaigns that target sexual health in effort to promote awareness, but none have had a bigger impact in the last decade than the Staying Alive campaign.
The Staying Alive campaign was created back in 1998 in an attempt to increase awareness about safe sex, encourage HIV prevention, and promote safer lifestyle choices. This media campaign started as just a single documentary by the name of World Aids Day. As of right now, Staying Alive is the world’s largest HIV awareness and prevention campaign, and is continuing to show its dedication to helping the community at large. The campaign is currently partners with UNICEF and UNAIDS in attempt to combine efforts and combat this worldwide epidemic.   This international initiative has also teamed up with MTV in hopes to create well renowned campaign and have a greater impact by reaching out to as many people as possible. The campaign itself produces numerous amounts of multimedia programming and entertainment such as television shows, concerts, PSA’s, and documentaries.
Staying Alive’s current project is called “Shuga,” which started back in 2009. It is a dramatic television series set in Nairobi, Kenya that follows the lives of a group of teenagers, as they face dangerous and adverse situations.
