What is sexual harassment?

Sexual harassment means unwelcome attention of a sexual nature. And it is a form of illegal and a range of are social harassment. It includes a range of behavior from seemingly mild transgressions and annoyances to actual sexual-abuse or sexual assault. It is considered as a form of illegal discrimination in many countries, and is a form of abuse both sexual and psychological. This includes unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct. This conduct constitutes sexual harassment under three conditions: the behavior must be…….

• Unwanted, improper or offensive.

• Refusal or acceptance of behavior influences decisions concerning an illegal.

• The behavior in question creates a working climate that is intimidating, hostile, or humiliating for the person.

Sexual Harassment as a Deviant Behavior:

Deviant behavior is a term commonly used in the sociology. Deviation means to go beyond social norms and values. If one violates social customs and manners and causes disorganized situation in the society is deviant behavior. P. B. Horton and C. L. Hund commented on their book ‘Sociology’ – the term social deviance is given to any failure to conform to the customary norms of the society.

Deviant behavior is closely related with certain state. As for example, a person may be honest, enthusiastic, and wise in his activities but may also be deviant in his sexual behavior.

On the other hand, the word “Sexual Harassment” is new which emerge in the 9th decade of last century. From that time women were being harassed by others as one of the negative response to industrial revolution. People can be deviant in nature in many causes. If their personality does not develop normally, then he may be deviant in nature. According to many sociologists some people are deviant by born. That’s why we can accept sexual harassment as a deviant behavior. Because, normal person spirited with humanism can’t do this type of cheap business. According to this view, the deviant behavior is punishable and could be reduced by using policies and Medias of social control.

Sexual harassment in the world:
Sexual harassment is much neglected work that hunting the whole world. Sexual harassment is more highlighted in our educational places and work place. Man woman, children nobody will be safe from this task. Approximately 15,000 sexual harassment cases are brought to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) each year. Media and government surveys estimate the percentage of women being sexually harassed in the U.S. workplace at 40 to 60%.[citation needed] The European women's lobby reports that between 40 and 50% of female employees have experienced some form of sexual harassment or unwanted sexual behavior in the workplace. While the majority of sexual harassment complaints come from women, the number of complaints filed by men is rapidly increasing. In FY 2007, 16% of EEOC complaints were filed by men with 11% of claims involving men filing against female supervisors.
