In recent years, sexual enslavement has been one of the most serious and widespread problems found everywhere in our society. Even children are being forced into prostitution. Millions of people suffer in sexual enslavement. Slavery is a harsh reality for many people over the world. There are between 12 million to 27 million slaves in the world. The U.S. State Department estimates 800,000 victims, mostly women and children, are trafficked for sex trade across nations each year and millions more are trafficked within countries. Women are bought and sold like objects and treated with no dignity. These women are enslaved in forced or bonded labor, sexual servitude, and involuntary servitude at any given time. Human rights groups claim that about 150,000 foreign women are working as hostesses, exotic dancers, and prostitutes. Women have no safety in this world. Sexual enslavement is a violation against women’s human rights.
In the article, “Sold into Slavery,” Tran Jonathan explained the story of a girl named Sarah who is an illegal immigrant smuggled into United States. She spents most of her time servicing her clients by having sex. If she refuse to do that, she would get beat up so rudely. Often her captors used to warn her that if she tries to escape, they will threaten her family or even kill them. Sarah looks out to the barely visible world beyond her window. When ever she can she watches feet go by. This is her only contact with the outside world. She couldn’t explain herself because she don’t know the language. She lost all of her freedom.
This article also revealed that Internet   serves as a sex bazaar connecting supply and demand. According to the United Nations, 87 percent of the slaves trafficked from one country to another are women and children who are forced into prostitution.
