Sexual education is a debate that has been in controversy for many years. Are the public schools the right place to teach sexual education or should sexual education be something that is taught at home. Abstinence is the only way to be sure of not becoming pregnant or contracting a sexual transmitted disease. Children need to be taught about their bodies so that they can make wise choices for themselves.
Boys go through puberty between the ages of 11 and 14 years old. Boys go through many changes including arms and legs get longer, hands and feet get larger, height and weight increase, face lengthens, nose and jaw become bigger, body sweats more, facial hair grows, hair on arms, legs, and chest can grow darker and thicker, hair grows under arms, voice cracks and becomes deeper, Adam’s apple in throat gets larger, shoulders and chest get bigger, pubic hair grows around genitals, penis gets larger and longer, scrotum gets bigger and baggier and turns a darker color, testicles get larger and fuller, testicles produce sperm, penis ejaculates sperm, sometimes during “wet dreams’, hair and skin can become oily and skin may break out. Boys are taught to take a bath or shower every day, wear clean socks and underwear every day to keep themselves clean. Deodorants and antiperspirants are also important for boys to use when puberty begins (Bailey, 2004).
Girls go through puberty between the ages of 10 and 13 years old. Girls go through many of the same changes as boys such as height and weight increases, face widens and lengthens a little, hips get wider and more curvy, arms and legs get longer, hands and feet get larger, voice deepens a little, pubic hair grows, hair on arms and legs grows darker and more visible, and hair grows under arms.
