sex shop visit
On November 13th I made a trip to the “Dr. Loves Erotic Superstore” sex shop in Pacific beach. I chose this particular sex shop because I work in PB and I passed by it plenty of times and have always wondered what it was like inside. This is my 2nd time visiting a sex shop, first time was years back with my ex-boyfriend, and it was an uncomfortable and shocking experience because I was never surrounded by so many sexual objects and pornographic images. This time I invited my best friend to go with me since I felt like it would be very awkward and uncomfortable for me to go in alone.
When I walked in, I had a sense of sexual overload that it was almost overwhelming. We both felt quite uncomfortable at first, but the worker was very kind and welcoming, it made us feel more at ease. As we looked around, it was actually beginning to be very interesting and fun rather than uncomfortable. I saw all kinds of sexual entertainment products such as sex toys, lingerie, clothing, pornography, and other related products. The product that I thought was most interesting was an “Artificial Hymen” that restores a woman’s virginity in 5 minutes, I’ve never knew such thing existed and was wondering if some women buy that and if it actually works. The product that I thought was most unusual was a “doggy sex doll” which had a hole in the back of it where a male can insert his penis. I thought it this product was a bit disturbing yet kind of funny. The most embarrassing product I saw was an enormous dildo that was about 25 inches long and 4 inches thick. I did not understand how it could go inside a woman’s vagina! Finally, the product that was most expensive was a gold plated vibrator that coasted around 650-700 dollars, I was not sure why someone would own that…
A back video room in the back of the store was offered for customers to pay money to watch pornography in privacy. I witnessed two men going in and out of the room at different times. I haven’t seen a “back room” the first

Being Smart enough to take a hint from the lesson plan, Raymond Carver disguises some very subliminal sexual innuendos in a few different places throughout the story of Cathedrals. On the surface it’s a story about a man losing his social misgivings for the blind by coming to understand what it is like to be in that person’s shoes, so to speak. If a few scenes are looked at in a different light though, they bring on a completely different meaning for what the narrator experiences. The first clue that these scenes can be taken a different way is the fact that these are the same scenes that feature the most amount of detail and description. By using sexual innuendos in the scenes of the narrator’s wife having her face touched by Robert, the dinner scene, and the drawing scene, carver turns one social upheaval into a completely different one. The key to decoding the text is to remember that Robert is only blind to… the blind; to the aware, Robert is obviously gay, which is a much more fitting social issue for the disdain the narrator feels about Robert’s “blindness.”…

A brief History of Ann Summers 1970’s 4 sex shops in London aimed at men clinical white closeted spaces. 1980’s 3 shops closed and 1981 party planners recruited all women 500 of them. 1990’s Ann summers went back into storefront retailing again. In the 2000’s early on Knickerbox was acquired and this added 26 stores in the high street. Web based online retailing and retail is now the biggest part of the Ann Summers Business (1). The change started when Jackie Gold (one of the owners daughters) took a Tupperware party idea to the board. This change was really a new business rather than a change it took the existing inventory of the sex shops and utilised a new format for distribution. Throughout the decades Ann Summers has changed as detailed above the reasons for change would seem entirely driven by customer needs and wants. Gold states “Ann Summers continues to be a customer-led business and it is customers again who have driven the latest rebrand” (1: 19). It is clear that Ann Summers as a brand have a wealth of engagement with customers defined by interaction with staff in the stores and the face to face engagement they have with customers who might not like to discuss or share with friends in the party plan atmosphere, together with the 8000 party planners who make there income from arranging 200,000 parties in customers homes per annum (2). These 8000 party planners see and listen to women in a comfortable and relaxing environment (possibly a drink or two is involved) but understanding the customer needs and wants has probably never been easier a ready made focus group which earns you money. The communication to customers about change or rebranding has never been easier Ann Summers have a captive audience to communicate changes to but best of all the changes are actually driven by the customer. Do they understand their customer - the answer is yes. The customer completes their empathy map for them.…

Upon the girl’s entry, he describes their physical appearances in extensive detail. The “chunky one with a good tan”, the “tall one with black hair that hadn't quite frizzed right”, and the “queen” with the “long white prima donna legs” and bathing suit straps “looped loose around the cool tops of her arms”. From the amount of detail he used to describe the girls, I deducted that this was a distracting sight to him, along with the rest of the store’s customers who stared at them in disbelief.…

When I first starting planning out the trip to down town to visit the museum I thought it would go actually the way I planned it. The plan was to wake up on Sunday make sure I wore enough layers of clothing because I am always cold; get on the train and go. Well it was a bit more complicated than that. I woke up later than I expected but still had fun waiting at the train station with my boyfriend. Also I did not wear proper shoes because when I started driving off it started raining, but my car is an endless closet so I found some shoes that were not going to soak through when I hit the first big puddle in Chicago. On the train ride I started calculating what I wanted to see and in what order, but I did not consider that my boyfriend would want to see something else and that we have different taste. This of course was a problem when we got there. So when we started walking down the couple of blocks that would get us to the museum from Union Station, I knew there would be bums, but they decided that Sunday was the best day to come out. On the way there we got asked by more than five bums if we could make a donation so that they can help the homeless shelters to support them. They especially liked the area right in front of the museum so it was hard not to make contact with them. However once inside I did not expect the museum to be so large because on the outside it honestly looked smaller. The lady at the front desk was nice enough to give us student discounts even though neither of us had our student IDs, and my boyfriend was finally happy that he can dry off his feet, unlike me he did not think about carrying around boots with him.…

    Erotic City: Summary

Sides' book Erotic City presents extremely unique and original research that gives an incredibly detailed view of the change in public sexuality that occurred beginning in the mid 1960's. While I was previously aware in some form that a sexual revolution occurred in San Francisco, I had absolutely no idea how or the scope of it that this book brought to light. I did not realize that to some San Francisco was considered a city that had an “excess of morality” (19) that “far exceeded that to be found in other cities.” (19) The concept of the regulation of morality is always something strange and interesting to me. On some level, I understand why politicians and the San Francisco government would attempt to place restrictions on sexual freedom…

When discussing the “XXX” industry, otherwise known as pornography or the adult film industry, people tend to discuss it in hushed tones, or rather not discuss it much at all. When it comes to sex in general, America generally is uncomfortable talking about sex and topics related to it. It should come as no surprise that the porn industry is treated in a similar fashion. Pornography, according to Sullivan, was considered “sexually 'explicit' writings, still or motion pictures and similar products designed to be sexually arousing,” (Sullivan, 2012, pg.321).…

It was expensive, and wasn't worth my time and the effort I put in. I couldn't hide my shock when I entered the museum. It was like a – for the lack of better word - porn shop. The things they showed, the things they sold… I couldn't hide my disappointment, while the guys were giggling away like school girls. The first floor wasn't that bad. They had pictures hung up on the walls, like a real museum. Pictures were a little grotesque, but it was still art (in a way) and I understood it and accepted it. But the second floor was where everything turned into a real porn shop. They were playing different films of people having intercourse; Different places, different people, different positions, and different ages. I practically closed my eyes and walked through that section in two seconds. I wasn't used to those kinds of things, especially showing in a place called ‘museum'. But the section after that was even worse. Next to the few books about human anatomy and how babies are made in a woman's womb, which was presented to us in the glass case along the walls, in the open, they had different sex machines that peopled used many years ago. Yes, machines. Not little ones too. They had huge ones that looked like chairs with things attached to them, and they also had thing jumpsuit looking thing that I wasn't sure if it was a sex machine or a spacesuit. And I saw the light. It was the…

    The Ladies Paradise

    • 1717 Words

Zola's portrayal of men and their attitudes towards women may be the relation between that of, the controller and the controlled. One is made to believe that it is the men who control the women, and although this is the case in most instances of the Ladies Paradise, there are two people who ensue in resisting against all odds, at being run over by the machine that captivated and engulfed the late nineteenth century bourgeois household unit. They are the elegant Mademoiselle Boudu and the brushy eye browed Monsieur Bourras. One of the main characters Monsieur Mouret ("governor" of the Ladies Paradise) spectacularly uses the lower classes as a tool to increase the perception of happenings in his store. So as to invoke middle class ladies of France not only to enter his palatial trap set for the nineteenth century consumer, but as well to create their desire of acquiring greater material possessions than they may actually need. Another implication is the insatiable consumer appetite created by Mouret results in the development of kleptomania, exemplified in the latter stages of the book by a bourgeois wife of a Magistrate, Madame de Boves, as well as long time employees of the department store. Mouret is the quintessential renaissance man of France with his dashing ways of charming women and subduing them to his desires whilst having them believe that his actions are in their favor and interest at all times.…

I rolled over and I saw the feminine looking guy. He was, of course, naked. There I was, lying on my back in an open air massage area with others also getting rubbed on the massage tables while this pretty man with amazing hands was rubbing all over my body with a very relaxing massage techinique. I felt ecstatic! Once more, I started to fall asleep when he moved to my head end of the table and started massaging my shoulders and neck form the front. Closing my eyes, I relaxed as I let his soothing hands do their thing. I mst have dozed off a bit because I suddenly became aware of his hands rubbing me between my legs. Looking down on my feet, I saw a man leaning over rubbing my cock and taking it into his mouth, but the massage was continuing…

I remember this night so vividly, it’s like it happened yesterday. I had been working a thirteen hour shift for the third day in a row, I was exhausted. I was the only waitress on, since everyone else but the bartender had already gone home for the night. There were a select few of our regulars, just sitting around enjoying their drinks and talking amongst themselves, as I went from table to table saying quick one liner’s and hurriedly taking orders. At the end of the bar there was one of the regulars I was used to seeing every night, then I noticed next to him was this guy I had never seen before. He immediately caught my attention. He was a very strong looking man, like he could break a glass if he held it too tightly. Sitting hunched over his…
