Sex Education in Public Schools

      Sex education in schools is about developing teenager’s skills so that they make important choices about their behavior, and feel confident and competent about acting on these choices.   Sex education can form a solid foundation based on the knowledge that teenagers can build over time.   Sex education has become the most debatable topic in American education.   Most teenagers are so clueless when it comes to sex and the consequences that it can bring.   The most important consequences of not having sex education in schools are teenage pregnancy, the transmission of STDs, and sexual abuse.
      Teen pregnancy is one of the most important consequences a young person might ever face when it comes to the lack of sex education.   Young teens that become pregnant can develop certain complications with their health as well as their baby’s health.   Such issues might include the lack of prenatal care, premature birth, etc.   According to the Guttmacher Institute, the teen pregnancy rate in America is almost twice as high as those of England and Canada, and eight times as high as those of Japan and the Netherlands.   Obviously, the amount of sex education in the United States compared to countries that are outside of the U.S is very low.
      Another consequence due to the lack of sex education is the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).   Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infectious diseases that spread from person to person through intimate contact.   STDs can affect anyone young or old, but unfortunately, STDs have become more common among teens.   According to an article, “Nineteen million new STDs infections occur each year, almost half of them among young people ages 15 to 24.”   Majority of these teenagers have stated that they have never attended a sex education class before and were not aware of the effects of STDs.   Sex education will teach teenagers about the different STDs and the affects that each one...
