1. CheckPoint: Setting Goals

• Identify two of your long-term education, career, or personal goals. • Describe the specifics of each goal. Determine whether you think the goal is moderately difficult and whether it aligns to your values. • Break them into several short-term goals you hope to accomplish in a short time. • List a specific deadline for each short-term goal. Describe how you will accomplish the goal.

My long term educational goal is to receive my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice by March 2015 with at least a 3.5 GPA. I believe that this goal can be achieved with my educational plan developed with the University of Phoenix. I have always wanted to obtain a college degree, but wasn’t sure if I would be able to. I decided to choose criminal justice because of my past experience. My short term goal is to receive my associate’s degree. If I continue on the path that I’m currently on I should receive my associate’s degree by March 2013. My long term personal goal is for my husband and me to purchase a home by the summer of 2013. I believe that this goal is achievable if we stay on budget and continue to save money. We have already started paying things off that are on our credit reports, and decided that we will continue to live in an apartment until we are able to purchase our home. We plan to start looking for a home by January 2012. I know that I am not psychic, but I believe if I stick to my plans, I will be able to accomplish both my educational and personal goals.
