Senior Year Struggles Senioritis is a common term frequently used to describe the typical behavior of a senior in high school. This term stands for the typical laziness seniors get accustomed to during their last year of high school, and it is a terrible habit. Most seniors display some form of this laziness, and it typically still does not affect students too much. However, for some people with severe traits of senioritis, it can be a life changing habit that can change their academic future and even their life. I happen to be one of those few people who had it brutally affect my life. Senioritis got the best of me in high school and it has affected me ever since. The senioritis problem which revolved around my senior year of high school was a growing one that I did not take note of until I had a major problem on my hands. My senior year started off amazing. It had everything any high school senior would want it to have. The beginning of the school year meant the start of the season for Friday night lights, excessive amounts of school spirit, and bonfires. School was fun, with me thinking very little about the actual academic part of it. My weekday mind was constantly scanning through ideas about what the weekend might hold, or what sporting event I would be attending that night, or the afterschool gym session. The list goes on and on. Autumn and the start of school also meant the sport of archery hunting and the great outdoors for me. I am an avid outdoorsman and love spending my falls in the woods enjoying nature and the changing landscapes. The start of fall and school also meant having the mind of a typical teenage boy. I was thinking about girls and events such as the homecoming dance were constantly flowing through my mind as well. Hunting and being a guy adds just yet more to the list of things that takes up what I think about in my mind. All these things going through my mind at the time

When I began my senior year of high school, I was tired and unmotivated and chose to give up and not put my full effort into all my school work. I was so excited, my last year of high school. I was always told since I was a freshman that your junior year would be the hardest and the most important because those are the grades that colleges will mostly be looking at and that your senior year would be the easiest because you're mostly taking electives and you only need to focus on you main courses such as economics and english to graduate. When I started school this year I put off all my homework till last minute, I was absent more than usual, my work was sloppy, and I wasn't really participating. I kept thinking that all I need is a 65 in…

This is considered to be the most severe form of senioritis ever discovered, and is known to have horrible side effects such as severe ABAS, laziness, and in some cases it has been known to cause the afflicted to drop out of highschool. Seniors affected with this type of senioritis are known to say things similar to “I’ve had senioritis since the day I was born,” and “C’s get degrees.” These seniors complain about their case of senioritis more often than anybody could ever care to hear, and in some of the most extreme cases they will even talk about their illness even when it appears nobody is listening. One of the defining characteristics of chronic senioritis is its longevity. Seniors affected by this type of senioritis are typically infected by their sophomore year, but can be infected as early as the beginning of their freshman year. These seniors constantly complain about the toll all their hard work has had on them over the years, however they typically haven’t done much, if any, work in high school. The reason Chronic Senioritis is considered to be the most severe of all types of senioritis is its lethal combination of longevity and severity that can so easily reduce even the best students to high school dropouts and basement dwelling…

For most students, Senioritis won’t appear until the later years of high school, most likely the end of junior year and of course during the senior year. For the most part, I don’t think people just become lazy and de-motivated overnight but Senioritis is more of a thing that you adapt through your high school years. Many students try to make their senior year the easiest by doing everything they can for the first three years, so when their senior year comes around you’re not totally swamped with schoolwork. Usually, some seniors get out at the end of fifth period, and some are out of school after lunch. Despite contracting ‘Senioritis’ many students don’t get Senioritis because they’re just so pumped to get out of high school and keep moving…

Every high school senior is given certain "privileges" that the underclassmen are not. There have been complaints about whether or not seniors should be entitled to these privileges or not. The answer to this complaint is, yes, seniors are very entitled to their privileges. The expectations for students have increased considerably over the years, making reaching senior year less common for students than it used to be. Any student that has been able to withstand the stress of high school for 4 (or in some cases more) years is more than entitled to a few privileges. The privileges themselves are not anything huge in the first place. The seniors are dismissed a few minutes before the underclassmen before their lunch and at the end of the day. They are also given up…

High school is a wonderfully awkward, exciting, and confusing time. Me, well, I was lucky. High school was easy. I could ace classes without much effort. By the end of my sophomore year I was ready to be done, high school bored me. Junior year rolled around and things started to change. I started to feel very insecure and unworthy. These feelings didn’t develop overnight, but soon I was comparing myself to everyone, and I felt inferior. Everyone around me seemed to get better grades, or had more athletic talent than I did. After more time passed, these feelings didn’t go away. I had developed severe depression and anxiety by the time I was a senior in high school. I had thoughts of hurting myself, and I felt completely alone. Eventually, my best friend intervened and with the help of my parents, I went to counseling. I started taking anti-depressants and things really turned around. I felt…

Everyone faces his or her own challenges both big and small. Some are in a constant battle with day-to-day struggles throughout their entire life, while others only experience a minor rough patch and move along. My life was considerably mellow until the beginning of high school when my exceptionally normal life took a turn for the worst. I began to experience crippling anxiety and depression that peaked during my junior year. School was an everyday obstacle for me. Waking up each morning and preparing myself for school became more difficult, but I managed to be present at school. Socializing was another issue, I attempted to conceal my inner feelings from others. It slowly began to affect my education and in realizing how much so, I knew change…

    Gap Year

In its most basic form, taking a gap year refers to taking a year out of studying to do something else. Many people take a gap year before starting college or work, but it can be taken at any time. A gap year is also taking “time off with a purpose.” It is not a time to do nothing, but is an intentional time of reflection and discovery before a major transition in life. It’s a chance to take a different route for a while, push yourself in a new direction before continuing on your path to higher education or work. The origination of the gap year concept was born out of the ‘Grand Tour’, an essential part of the education of many young English gentleman in the eighteenth century, which generally involved traveling for up to three years and stopping at cultural centers such as Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome. In the 1950’s, after WWII, youth travel and cultural exchange was viewed as a useful tool to build better global understanding and prevent future war. The first 'gap year', generally occurring between high school and college, actually started in the UK in the 1960's. Since the 1990's taking time out has become a rite of passage for tens of thousands of UK students. The gap year is now becoming increasingly popular with US students. Students today have experienced high to extreme academic pressure since elementary school. Educators and psychologists agree that many students are burnt out and have had very little time to reflect on who they are, what they’re truly interested in and what their life’s purpose will be. A gap year can be a precious time to explore, learn, travel, and experience more of a personal evolution. Perhaps these statistics offer further proof points. According to the College Board, three out of five students who enter a public four-year college don’t graduate within five years. And nearly 30 percent of all students who enter college don't return for their sophomore…

    Teenage Stress

Academics is one of the most known pressure to teenagers these days. Most of them feel as though they're able handle it, and may take on more than they can grasp. At times we question ourselves, "Why should school be so stressful?" It is said, "School is suppose to be a place where young people are to be exposed to new, interesting ‘stuff,' and to learn. That's supposed to be enjoyable to some extent. And of course, you're supposed to make new friends and hang out with them, having the time of your young life." Unfortunately, that is different for most people. Where there's fun, there are responsibilities and expectations that follow. Teenagers begin to face jam-packed schedules, hours of homework and projects, high expectations, demanding social lives and way too little sleep. All of this eventually accumulates, putting great stress on even the smartest, straight-A student.…
