The poem "Self-Reliance," was published in 1841.   This poem is extensively considered to be the ultimate declaration of Emerson's viewpoint of individuality and the optimum case of his writing style.   Many have thought of “Self-Reliance” to be a fabric woven of various threads.   It started from a journal entry written as early on as 1832 to material that was used in lectures between 1836 and 1839.
Emerson was well-known for his repetitive use of the expression ‘‘trust thyself." "Self-Reliance" is his rationalization—both methodical and fervent—of what he intended by this and of why he was encouraged to make it his catch-phrase.   Every human being possesses a distinctive genius, Emerson disputes, that can only be discovered when that person has the bravery to trust his or her own feelings, outlook, and proclivity against all communal displeasure.
According to the practices of his era, Emerson utilizes the expressions "men" and "mankind" to speak to all people and the multitude of illustrations he gives of those who demonstrated self-reliance and became great are all men.   These aspects somewhat date Emerson's arrangement; the underlying thoughts, yet, remain influential and pertinent.

Emerson starts off "Self-Reliance" by defining genius: "To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men—that is genius.’’   Every sophisticated man, he writes, ultimately grasps that ‘‘envy is ignorance" and that he should be truly himself.   God has made each individual unique and, by extension, given each person a unique job to do, Emerson embraces.   To trust one's own judgment and set them into action is, in an extremely real sense, to take notice of and proceed on the voice of God.
Emerson states that people must seek privacy to listen to their own thoughts, because society, by its temperament, forces men to obey the rules.   He goes so far to label society "a conspiracy... [continues]
