Self-esteem and Respect
Respect “Respect permeates every aspect of you life.” As Joe Clark said in this quote, respect takes charge of everything in a persons life. The dictionary definition of respect is “a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something, elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.” Being respectful may come natural to most people, but for others it's a difficult task. Having respect can be taught from a young age. Being respectful requires, having self respect, listening to others, and earning and giving respect to other people. Self respect is having appropriate sense of one's own dignity and integrity. If a person does not respect themselves then they probably will never respect other people. If a person notices that another person does not take care of themselves by proper hygiene, letting people run over them, or having low self esteem, then people will mostly likely not respect that person. If a person practices good psychological health, physical health, and recreational health, then they respect themselves and are a good example of self respect. On the other hand if a person never exercises, smokes, drinks all the time, and hangs out with criminals, then they do not have self respect. People who have self respect will care enough about their bodies, and will not put themselves in those type of situations. Self respect is a trait that everyone should develop at some point because it will determine how the rest of your life will turn out, and is required for having a happy and satisfying life. Parks 2 Respect is listening to other people. When a person truly respects someone they will listen to their opinions and values, even if it's something that does not interest you. When listening to someone you give them your undivided attention. When a person sits down and put away all of their distractions (cell phones, computers paperwork) away that shows that they care and respect that other person. When listening to other people, try to stay

Self esteem can be defined in many different ways. I happen to look at it very simple, I think that self-esteem means the way a person feels about their self, and individual standards. I also believe it is the way we as people appraise our emotional being in the world compared to others, and the way we function in relationships (meaning the we act and treat others), and what is considered acceptable or what is not. The thing I learned about self-esteem, is that it is influenced by various factors, including culture, personal observations, atmosphere and perceptions.…

From past experiences I have learned the real meaning of respect. This word is more powerful than one can imagine. With respect comes unselfishness. When people respect others, they are treated equally. My mother and father always told me to be tactful in the way I treated others, so I would also be respected. It has worked in the past and will always hold true in the future. If someone respects another with proper judgment, people feel good inside which gives them a sense of integrity. When I give respect and witness how it makes others feel, I feel like more of a person. I feel proud. Honored.…

What does respect mean to you? To me, respect means following the golden rule. It means treating others with kindness, love, generosity, and having polite manners. “Treat others as you would like to be treated.” That is the golden rule, is it not? Who wouldn’t want to be treated with kindness? Who wouldn’t want to be around someone with manners and cleanliness? Respect is being considerate to others and their feelings and beliefs. Respect isn’t just for others though, you need to respect yourself as well; take care of yourself and be presentable. If you would like to be treated with respect, you, first, need to learn to respect yourself and others. Once that is accomplished, others will learn to respect you.…

Respect is a fundamental factor of life that stabilizes and controls the individuals within a society. In the event that respect is not present, a community can be hindered from being peaceable and therefore creates instability and, of course, offensiveness. Respect not only plays a part in the daily conversations among people, but also influences the outcome of a person’s actions. When a person is very courteous, that person will most likely receive generous amounts of respect back from the surrounding individuals and will also receive more attention. In contrast, when a person is ill-mannered, that person will receive less respect (or sometimes none at all) and will additionally be ignored by most people. Respect is a variable virtue of life that depends on the characteristics of each being.…
