Self Discovery Artifact Reflection I am someone who likes write things out, and see what I have to do, and so I went to the store and bought a calendar that I can use dry erase markers on so that I have to write everything out. It gets me to know exactly what I have planned during the week after school, on weekends, or on breaks from school. I put things like my family or a friend’s birthday so I make sure to call, also if I plan on staying afterschool one day. I use it to see when I hang out with my friends on the weekend because these last couple months have been a bit hectic with college things that it is nice to hang with friends and I just write it on my calendar and know exactly what I’m going to do that day. As a personal artifact I have started to do things to relieve stress from home. I am someone who wants to pursue a career in Graphic Design, but it is good to not use a computer sometimes, and I am a visual person, with a bit of a blue personality type. So, I have started to paint a bit, and do random, but stress-relieving, drawings, such as when I started to just write the names of bands that I like a lot on a balloon. Sure it is weird or different, but once you actually so it, it is actually pretty funny and once you pop the balloon the drawing and words actually come out kind of cool. My other new stress reliever is has the same effect as the balloon drawings and it just helps to calm down or if I feel like creating

My creativity is like a roller coaster. At the beginning of my life I was riding the roller coaster of my creativity up a very high hill. This was the time when I was just starting to figure out how everything worked and what creativity ment. I found I could express myself through a crayon and piece of paper. I was drawing everything that made me happy. My family was what I mostly drew at this point, because my happiness revolved around them. As I got further up the hill the track kept getting steeper, because I was learning about my creativity very fast. I even started drawing what made me sad, like my best friends getting mad at me or my dog passing away. I could tell my mom how I felt without saying…

“All too soon, I came to understand what hard work this was (Felsenfeld 626).” Those are the words stated by Daniel Felsenfeld in his narrative essay, “Rebel Music,” where he takes us through a personal journey of becoming a composer. He started off as being an “uninspired” 17-year-old boy taking piano lessons, who soon found he had a hidden passion for classical music that promptly turned into an epic career. For me, lacrosse was my piano lessons. At the young age of 13-years-old, I made the decision to be brave and join the local lacrosse team. When I began, I knew next to nothing about the game, but I soon fell in love with the trill of the sport. That year I bought my first lacrosse stick; it felt just like opening your first present on Christmas day. Not only did I adore it, but it taught me dedication, perseverance, and courage, three things I didn’t know I needed, but now have great understanding for.…

By delving into new media, I realized the process of creating art was just as therapeutic as the work itself. In printmaking, for example, I designed a silkscreen self-portrait which illustrated my mental disorder. The first print was the most emotionally difficult to make because I struggled confronting my disorder. However, the more copies I created, the more I could accept the face looking back at me. Because of this process, I could present the piece in my classroom critique. Additionally, my ceramic pieces each had a definite conceptual backbone, but working the clay with my hands promoted a sense of wellness and satisfaction that I had not yet achieved with another medium. The combined therapeutic capability of art itself and the process of making art are now tools of healing and self-expression that I can use as an artist and in my future…
