Self Analysis Report
Organizational Behavior
While reading over each chapter in our textbook “Organizational Behavior” by Steven L. McShane, I tried to relate all of these different organizational tactics to my work and everyday life. When completing each chapter (discussions, virtual group, and quizzes), I used the online exercises from each chapter to better understand each part of our objectives, whether that be with conflict, locus of control, individual behavior, and perception learning in organizations. By completing the self assessment online exercises at the end of each chapter, I reinforced what I learned in the chapter and received a better understanding on how to apply this in this business course but also the business I am apart of in my daily life. In this paper I would like to take you chapter by chapter and show you how I related these chapters to my own business life, which has not only changed my view of business but also changed the views of some people higher up at my business of which I am employed.
One chapter I found to help me the most was chapter 10, Conflict Management. In everyday life we are facing with conflicts in almost every direction we turn, either that be with a person, a self-conflict, or ideal conflict. At the Patent and Trademark office where I am employed, I work with a close team of three individuals to research patents, type reports, and constantly file documents away. We have worked together for two years and before taking this class, I had never noticed how much conflict we all faced with each other. The chapter and online exercise taught me three fundamental parts of conflict that turned myself, and my coworkers into more capable workers. First I’ll start with the background of our team, this consisted of myself (2 years working), Brian (5 years working), Kyle (8 years working).
