“Second hand but green X’ mas”
I am writing in response to the article “Second hand but green X’ mas”(3rd Jan,08). This article is about a school how to use second hand materials to make a green Christmas. Students use various ways to decorate and keep the Christmas atmosphere. Both the teachers and students like this special project. Undoubtedly, this is a beneficial and unforgettable experience.
How to maintain festive atmosphere without decorations is a challenge to students, but this is an opportunity for students to show their creativity. It is not difficult to find some useful resources at school. I think it is really meaningful as something we always see in rubbish bin but now change into green artworks, scrap paper, used CDs, magazines etc. also can be attractive and unique decorations.
Besides, the relationship between students and teachers can be strengthened. There is always a lack of communication between teachers and students outside class. During this activity, they can chat more in the preparing time and enjoy the fruits of cooperation afterwards. I extremely admire the spirit enhanced through this project.
Furthermore, it helps promote the concept of environmental protection. Students in the article didn’t buy decorations from stores but made good use of imagination. What a good start! Actually, I am one of students in this article. I still remember how everyone in school participated and pay effort to this big scale campaign, we were tired but happy. Finally, we transformed the school into a wonderful playground. What I see is a green school, green Christmas!
It is a good idea to arrange schools to share ‘Green Christmas’ activity to other places, such as community centre, kindergarten or the elderly home. Students can tell their feelings and what they learned, maybe they can also use green decorations to hold a charity sale. I do believe ‘Green Christmas’ project is a stepping stone to let us...
