Chapter I
INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents the background of the study, statement of the problem, hypothesis, and significance of the study, scope and limitations, and the definition of terms. Background of the Study

Nowadays, prices of prime commodities are the rising. The consumers are challenged and are finding the best solutions to save their hard earned income but still maintain all aspects that are necessary for household matters. One of these pressing problems is in finding an alternative material for cheap and less life threatening cigarettes. Because of the new sin tax bill, Smokers would find the ways to satisfy their temptation for smoking in a much cheaper way. The corn cob is an alternative way to replace a cigarette filter. In using a corn cob filter a smoker could save much more because you would only buy tobaccos and refill your corn cob filter. As we all know, if we just label upon our surroundings and observe, we can use many available materials that may look like useless but of great importance if we experiment and examine it very closely. A cigarette filter has the purpose of reducing the amount of smoke, tar, and fine particles inhaled during the combustion of a cigarette. Filters also reduce the harness of the smoke to keep tobacco flakes out of the smoker’s mouth. So in the investigation theory corn cob will be a great filter because all of the smoke, tar and fine particles inhaled during the combustion of a cigarette will be filtered through the sides of the corn cob.

Statement of the Problem

This investigation aims to answer the following questions:
Can a corn cob really be used in making a cigarette filter?
Will it be effective and turn out to be great?
Is there a side effect of using this kind of cigarette filter?

Hypothesis

Significance of the Study

Economizing and ingenuity are the keys of the study. Saving money for using plants that are locally and readily available. There are no big sums of pesos for materials to be used.

Also, By using our minds to create a product that suits the needs and now sacrificing the effectiveness but also promoting human’s capacity to improve and to materializing things.

Scope and Limitations

This study was undertaken to determine if a corn cob can really be used as a cigarette filter. The investigatory project was investigated by 2 third year students of Maryhill College during the school year...
