Science pushes people to leave their comfort zone and challenge themselves. It makes them do things they would never imagine themselves doing. People risk so much when it comes to technology. Never knowing the outcome until after it’s already happening.…
Science is the driving force behind the growth of the human race. Without science our community would have stagnated completely. There would be no form of technology or even a basic understanding of how the human body works. While science is a vital source to human progression, a question arises; can science negatively impact the human race if its limits are pushed too far? Mary Shelley’s anti-Enlightenment book Frankenstein, paints a vivid picture of what may happen if science is pushed too far.…
To start off, science can be used for dangerous and bad conditions. One of the examples of science being improperly used is in the short story Harrison Bergeron, the HG would use special handicaps to handicap people to make everyone equal, and have the same intelligence. This is unacceptable because people should have the ability to express their own thoughts and talents and not be held back from striving to succeed from handicaps invented to belittle them. Another way it is used under dangerous conditions is when the United States used the atomic bomb to bomb Hiroshima. It took scientist to invent and created this bomb which killed and exterminated many people. In the story “The Sound of Thunder”, a time machine was used to send travelers back in time to hunt and kill dinosaurs. The machine put the travelers in danger by sending them to the past unknown world with ferocious predators. Eventually in the story Eckels stepped off the time machine path, and affected the future of present day. If they were never to go back in time nothing would have changed, and everything would have been back to normal. The advancements in technology and science could also affect us in the future greatly.…
Science has presented practical significants to the progressive world, however, it is impossible to distinguish science from social or political agendas. With that said, the public perception has too changed its views. Nelkin (1995) argues that, in light of the advancements that science has uncovered, these developments expose the underlining tensions between moral and ethics, expressing the political and social undercurrents embedded within science and environmental controversies. Therefore, the position of scientific knowledge within a controversy is dependant on many factors between political and social objectives. Webster (1991) confirms, “Science is rooted in the society which creates them”. Even within the scientific community, disputes over scientific ‘facts’ are seen to be flexible and negotiated to correspond to the image of ‘good science’ (Dolby 1972, p.317, cited in Webster 1991). As science remains to be one of the most important fundamental platforms in environmental controversies, it is important to factor in the social or political agendas within the knowledge claim. Webster (1991) concludes that, science should therefore not be considered a privileged resource unbound from social…

* Science has greatly increased the capability of man to kill each other, literally threating humanity. Although science is not always the cause of wars the advances in nuclear weaponry have given the man the power to destroy the world. At certain points in history, such as the Cuban missile crisis, the world has stood on the brink of destruction.…
However, in our misguided search for knowledge, we have turned a blind eye towards the morals and human values. After science was segregated from philosophy, it became knowledge without wisdom, without moral and had no value except truth value. The modern scientist became so obsessed with the facts and mathematical approach that they completely neglected the importance of human values in their studies or works. The ancient philosophers focused not just on knowledge of facts but also of wisdom and moral. Especially the Chinese philosophers had their whole philosophy based on the forces of good and evil. They even considered wisdomless and objective knowledge as ‘grotesque'. For the ancient philosophers, the hypotheses don’t only need to be true but also morally improving and must lead to a perception of the Good. Knowledge without morals is like a loose cannon and can be highly destructive in nature. There are multitudinous instances of destruction brought by science including nuclear bombs. It is wrong to just take intellectual factors as the basis to measure scientific advancements. Theodore Roosevelt emphasizes on the importance of morality, “To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.” In my opinion and as the evidence suggest, one of the major losses in our approach to nature during the transition to modern science is the loss of moral values and the sense of…
On the other hand science has some demerits also.science has provided us with fearful weapons of human destruction.Science has given us atom bomb and hydrogen bomb. These inventions have opened up with frightful possibilities of bacteriological warfare, all of which can wipe out entire nation in no time.Computer is the most wonderful invention but the misuse of computer is creating many problems like student waste their time in net cafe's and in playing video games.People are going away from healthy way of life.…

It is safe to say that everyone agrees that technology has evolved way beyond what people who lived centuries ago could anticipate. Many inventions have paved the way for our modern technologies. The only reason why technology has grown the way it has is all because of science. Science is responsible for how society is today, no matter what ones views are of our modern society. Although it is true that science has had many great contributions to the world, it is argued that it has also made negative effects as well. Although some critics may disagree, these negative affects should be solved outside the realm of science.…
6. Science, which brought a great change in human life, is not only the reason for the development of the world but also a major cause for the pollution and other causes that might lead to the destruction of the world. Though the study of science has brought many new inventions into our sight, they are more harmful than they are useful to the human world.…
Radio, television, telephone, teleprinters, computers, satellites, supersonic air crafts, space-crafts etc. have revolutionized life. Man has landed on the moon. He has sent his research crafts on the Mars and may soon print his footstep there. His achievements in the fields of medicine, agriculture, education, health, communication, banking etc. have been equally great. Man has conquered many fatal diseases. As a result the rate of mortality has decreased and expectancy of life increased. The standard of living has greatly improved. Life has become very easy, comfortable and convenient. The achievements of science have been too wonderful. This is the positive side of the science have been too wonderful. This is the blessings. But the negative side is too sad. It disturbs us all. Science has also created many problems. They are not easy to solve. They are vast and global and have affected the whole humanity.…
Science is a system of acquiring knowledge based on scientific method and research. Science is also a continuing effort to discover and increase human knowledge and understanding. Modern science is relatively new having it's origin about 350 years ago. Inspite of it's recent origin it has made very rapid progress and completely transformed outwardly the manner of our living. But before that Science was not an organised branch and neither were there any scientists. Instead there were primitive men who were less evolved and for whom the earth was a big puzzle. He did not dare to venture to places unknown to him to avoid any mishap. The sun, the moon and the stars amazed him. These heavenly bodies were held in great reverence. He was helpless and at the mercy of nature. Hence, he worshipped its forces. But his inquisitive nature made him do some primitive research. And the invention of the wheel and the discovery of fire were his achievements. This initiation into the scientific arena was a small step for man but a giant leap for mankind. It is because of the scientific knowledge accumulated over the last three centuries, and its application in the form of technology that our lives have changed outwardly. It didn't change as much in thousands of years as it has changed since the last one hundred years or so. The impact of science on society is very visible. Progress in agriculture, medicine and health care, telecommunications, transportation, computerization and so on, is part of our…
Science has been with us ever since our ancestors were barely civilized. It has simplified our lives to the extent that not only has it brought about positive effects but negative effects as well. Science is all around us, from the trash gathered in our waste basket to the chair, table and computer you are using to read this essay right now. To put it simply, as we continue our evolution, knowingly or unknowingly, the more we discover things through science and more change will be brought into our lives, whether we like it or not.…
