This artical to me I mean all i have to say to this is "SAD". I could understand why they would have a hard time doing this. But to think this is bad for them is just wrong because truthfully, It might not be the safest idea but it would be a smart one not just because its cleaning alot of the problem but its helping inecent animals who need it. When a birds winds are clean it repels water and helps there body temperature. If the wings are dirty they do the opposite. Oil itself makes feathers heavier and take away their ability to trap air, which for them makes it less buoyant and a higher chance to drown. There is also a high chance to overheating "(oiled feathers are less insulative), and organ damage (licking their feathers clean forces birds to ingest lethal quantities of black gooey hydrocarbons)".
"Is it worth the effort? Some scientists aren’t so sure. Because the stress of being captured and bathed is as significant as the trauma of being doused in oil, and because research suggests that many rescued birds die shortly after being released, some experts say euthanasia is a more humane option. “It might make us feel better to clean them up and send them back out,” says Daniel Anderson, an ornithologist at the University of California, Davis. “But there’s a real question of how much it actually does for the birds, aside from prolong their suffering.”
I personaly choose this atticle because it really upset me that they dont want to clean poor animals that are dying because they drown or cant fly. What i found the most interesting is that they dont want to clean them. I learned that some times i should look at what i have and not take it forgranted because animals have a great life but people can just take that away in a heart beat. [continues]
