Should School Uniforms be required?

School uniforms are specific clothes that a certain school requires its students to wear. Uniforms generally consist of either a dress shirt or polo shirt for both boys and girls and either dark or brown pants for both or a dark or plaid skirt for girls. Shoes may be dress shoes or plain dark shoes (http://ehow.com). Schools should require all students to wear uniforms due to the recession of the economy. Public schools are not enforcing this requirement because of the board members guidelines. In private schools it’s mandatory for each student to wear uniforms daily. Since the price of uniforms is reasonable and affordable many single parents would appreciate the idea. Wearing uniforms would eliminate some of the violence in schools such as bullying, teasing, and stealing. Many think that schools uniforms help maintain school discipline, decreasing the amount of discipline problems. Schools report that school uniforms decrease fighting and violence that arise out of arguments over fashionable clothes. Children invariably tease those who do not have trendy clothes. Those who can't afford name brand clothes are often sensitive about their clothing (http://www.articlebase.com). If more parents would attend school board meetings to enforce the uniform policy maybe the schools would accept the idea. The school administration would have to notify the parents so that the students are aware of the requirements and understand the policy. It seems that beginning of each school year the students start wearing uniforms and then they stop. There are no disciplinary actions towards not wearing the uniforms so the parents are not following through with the policy. Many private schools require their students to wear uniforms, which are color coordinated for each day of the week.
