Since 2003, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Santa Rosa Campus (PUP-SRC) is expecting not just to endow with the excellent learning of the students, but also to ensure quality education in terms of classroom accommodation and exceptional facilities at a considerable cost.
During the pioneering years at the old PUP-SRC building, in which the population of the students is about in few numbers (roughly a hundreds), the campus administration drawn the typical and a “must” system for every school which is the scheduling of their classes with their respective rooms.
Using a manually planned timetable, the scheduling helped out facilitating the students for almost a couple of years. But as the number of PUP-SRC student rises, the generation of the timetable become tedious. The system is inflexible to changes or adjustment of class schedules; these results into frequent time conflictions in the usage of classrooms. For the students, the possibility becomes higher for them not to perform well during their classes due to crowded and uncomfortable condition.
In order to lessen the inconsistency of the classroom schedules, the system is necessary to put into computerized method of class scheduling. The campus administrator, who is responsible for mapping the timetable, will be the one who is able to generate and revise the classrooms plan immediately without consuming much of the time. The computerized system only requires the enrollee data in order to accordingly sort them based on their courses, year, section and regularity, and then automatically assign them to their designated rooms based on their population. Hence, the project is called, the Adaptive Planning and Scheduling System for Classroom Accommodation and Allocation.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
How to accurately generate and modify the assignment of schedule of the classes to avoid time conflicts on the usage of classrooms? Specific Problem
1) Conflicts on the appointment of schedule
Cases occur in which some of the classes are mistakenly assigned with the same room and time. 2) Time-consuming of the generation of the class schedules Since the creation of the time schedule is manual, the assignment of rooms according to time is complex due to the considerably high annual population of the PUP-SRC. 3) Schedules are complicated to adjust
In view of the fact that PUP-SRC student population is varying every semester, the classroom schedule is predestined to be adjusted to accommodate a certain number of students.
As we go along with the new generation of modernization, computerization became a complement for every business establishment, government and eventually in schools to grant ease in our lives.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
One of the most triggering advancement of the modern educational institutions is the computerization of the records and transactions. Similar to most of the established firms, the main rationale of it is to lessen the paper works and to work securely, proficiently and timely for them to become productive.
Most of the schools and universities at the moment come up to the practice in which every record must be encoded and stored electronically; to be able to augment the rate of reliability especially with their increasing number of school records – in line with the increasing number of students and staffs, and the longevity of the school.
