Hester and Pearl in Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter

Hester committed the sin of adultery and became pregnant because of it. For the decisions she made she has to wear the letter "A" meaning adultery. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hester shows her way of regret by the way Pearl is treated, the way people treat Hester, and the way Pearl treats Hester. #1 One way Hester shows regret is by the way Pearl is treated. #2 Pearl is very disliked "and therefore scorned them in their hearts, and not unfreduently reviled them with their tongues." [84] #3 The little Puritans dont understand Pearl so this makes them treat her horribly. #3 The way Pearl reacts to the way the children treat her makes it seem like shes full if witchcraft because she yells witch like things and throws rocks. #2 Hester can make anything with "the excaption indicated the ever retentless vigor with which society frowned upon her sin." [73] #3 The people look down on her because of her sin and wont let her make anything for a bride. Even the poor people scorn her because of her sin of adultery. #2 Pearl would dress up the "A" and "she amused herself with gathering handfuls of wild-flowers and flinging them, one by one, at her mothers bosom, dancing up and down like a little elf whenever she hit the scarlet letter." [86] #3 Even though other people didnt Pearl still treated her mother with respect. #3 She does this way by not minding the "A" and dressing it up. #4 Hester regrets many things that she has done escaplly the sin. After she sinned no one respect her or her daughter, Pearl. They would deny her sewing jobs and the children would hurt her daughter. Even though everyone treats Hester and Pearl horribly, they still show each other love.
