Satisfied Customer or Employee:
Who’s more important?
Sitting at my work desk, I am reading a quote from my company’s “Strategic Plan”, “To satisfy customers worldwide and better the lives of the employee owners.” That’s an important quote, but who’s more important? Most people spend many hours, days, weeks, months, and years working for one or several employers. There are many good things to be grateful for in a job, especially this day in age. It seems that customer satisfaction plays a huge role within a company, but what about employee satisfaction. Yeah, the customer should always be the main focus, although there should be a little more focus on the employees who satisfies the customers. It seems like where ever I have worked there has always been more concerned issues than satisfaction within the workplace among employees. There’s nothing worse than working beside a disgruntle employee because he or she is exhausted from the work schedule or environment of the facility. If these are not enough to stress out an employee, let’s top it off with the organization of the work process. These issues can make or break a company if they are not addressed with the employer. When I had my small business, I always made sure that the employees were satisfied first and then the costumers because an unsatisfied customer is usually the result of an unsatisfied or disgruntle employee.
For instance, where I work now, the work schedule every week is a mandatory forty five hours. I knew this was going to be an issue even before I accepted this job two and a half years ago. I’m only human and once the eight hour mark comes around at the end of the day, I’m ready to call it a day. I better get that out of my head because I have one more hour to obtain in order to finish my shift. I really don’t see any benefits working an extra five hours per week.... [continues]
