In daily life people need to have some recreation due to work pressure and burdens of life. Playing sports is one way to relieve mental and physical pressure in the body. In contrast of physical sports, virtual sports is an electronic or computerized game played by manipulating images on a video display or television screen. This essay compares and contrasts the advantages and disadvantages of virtual and physical sports, specifically looking at the similarities and differences in terms of physical and emotional health.
Virtual and physical sports differ greatly in physical health effects. Regular physical activity that is performed on most days of the week reduces the risk of developing or dying from some of the leading causes of illness and death. For example, playing physical sports reduces the risk of dying from heart disease, the developing of diabetes, and high blood pressure. Virtual sports, on the other hand, such as computer and video games, may pose health risks including muscle and joint pain, obesity, eyestrain and overuse injuries of the hand caused by repeatedly pressing buttons. However virtual games may share some of the positive effects found in physical sports. For instance, the Wii can allow some movements of the body just like in physical sports. Although physical sports are useful for health, it can cause serious injuries or even death like in Formula 1 accidents and fighting sports. Overall, clearly physical sports have positive health effects, while the virtual sports have negative effects.
