Sanford Meisner
Sanford Meisner is a fanous actor and acting teacher, born in August 31, 1905 in Brooklyn. His nickname is Sandy. It is difficult to verbalize his lifetime of frustrations. But worked hard, and eventually he succeeded. After he became an acting teacher, he developed a form of method acting called the Meisner technique.
Sandy’s father is a furrier, and he has 4 children, Sanford, Jacob, Ruth, and Robert. Sandy is the oldest one. When he was young, he came to American from Hungary. And they are Jews. At that time, sandy was in poor health. For improve his health, his family took him to Catskills. Unexpectedly, Jacob was fed unpasteurized milk. Then Jacob was ill and died shortly thereafter. Because his parents blamed for his brother’s death, he became very withdrawn. After that he began to play piano, and went to the Damrosch Institute of Music. Finally, he became a concert pianist. But his father disagrees with his study in music school, and pulled him out for help his family’s business.
At 19, Sandy heard that the Theatre Guild need actor. This experience affected him deeply, and he believed this was he wanted. Since this, he began his actor life.
Sandy developed a special acting method, people named the Meisner technique. There is some information that I found: “ It is an inter-dependent series of training exercises that build on one another. Meisner Training is an inter-dependent series of training exercises that build on one another. The more complex work supports a command of dramatic text. Students work on a series of progressively complex exercises to develop an ability to improvise, to access an emotional life, and finally to bring the spontaneity of improvisation and the richness of personal response to textual work. The technique develops the behavioral strand of Stanislavski's 'system'. The technique emphasizes "moment-to-moment" spontaneity through communication with other actors in order to generate behavior that is truthful within
