CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM AND HISTORICAL BACKGROUND A. Introduction Beth Reyes Marketing owned and managed by Mrs. Beth Reyes which is located at Poblacion 3, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro, is a large store of furniture, appliances, plastic and glass wares, ready to wear, signatured clothes and jeans, school supplies, uniforms and different gadgets. They have a large storage room located near their store. Suppliers supplies goods twice a month. They also have delivery trucks for far deliveries. The operation of the said store is currently manual. There is no existing system for inventory, thus they just rely on their records stated on their record book. This record book contains records of delivery. The store will only ask for supplies when they see that their stocks are low. Inventory of items is not properly monitored and recorded. They don’t have a standard policy regarding installment plans. The plan depends on their agreement on how long the customer wants to pay their balance. If the owner knows the customer other considerations that are favorable to the customer about the payment are applied. Installment is only applicable for those purchases that cost of 5000 php and above. In the installment payment, it depends on how long the customer wants to pay their balance. They cannot easily identify whether the installment plan of a certain customer is completely paid. In terms of issuing a receipt, it only depends on the buyer if he/she wants a copy of it, therefore, the store does not have a reliable record of their sales every day. The researchers decided to make an automated management system which properly handles the inventory, sales, and installment of BRM. This system aids the BRM in checking and monitoring the status of their business. B. Statement of the Problem: General Problem There is no reliable way of monitoring the business’ inventory, sales and installment using their existing system. Specific problem

This paper explores the challenges of manual inventory management system for supermarkets and infers solutions to the current challenges by designing a computerized inventory management system to order and update the stocks. The main method used for this research work is interview. Data were collected from 5 heterogeneous supermarkets and used as a tool for obtaining facts. When the goods were supplied the update of the stocks were being taken from time to time. The finding shows the challenges facing the manual system of inventory management system; the manual system requires everyday counting of items in the inventory, human errors are very prevalent during counting and recording and in case of disaster like fire or flood or poor communication, all the manual inventory records will be damaged and irretrievable. Based on the findings this paper highlights the possible solutions to the above problems; a computerized inventory management system to order and update the stocks was designed and goods were supplied to implement the possible solutions.
