Another Bible verse that refers to homosexuality is located in 1 Timothy 1:10. This verse accompanied with verse nine is a list of who the law is made for including homosexuals, as well as, who is not included in needing the law (Holy Bible). These verses show that the one of the things that is not condoned by God is homosexuality (Harper). Overall, the Christian church tends to have a very narrow view on the lifestyle of those different than what the Bible states is correct; however, the way that the Bible states one should live is not always plainly stated. My opinion of same-sex marriage might be considered a moderate approach to dealing with this issue. Over this past summer, I was reading a book on the civil rights movement for a class and realized that the struggle for same-sex marriage is like the civil rights movement of the the 1960s. The main focal point of this argument was that both have been discriminated against in such a way that it hinders there lifestyles. Another view of mine is that I may not agree with the lifestyle of the people, but I am not here to be the judge of them. I am in no way perfect in the way I live my life so who am I to tell others how to live theirs. The only perfect person that ever lived on earth was Jesus and I am not Him. I may not agree with the way many people live their lives, but I live in a country that is about free expression and rights to choice on how to live ones life. I believe that same-sex couples should have the same rights as different-sex couples. Just because a person chooses to love someone of the same gender does not mean that he/she should be denied the right to having a marriage or being able to join his/her significant others insurance plans. Often times same-sex couples are denied the simple act of seeing a sick partner in the hospital because the couple is not married or blood related family. This is not right and should be changed even before the marriage is legalized. I feel strongly that if someone devotes a significant portion of his/her life to another person in a committed relationship that someone should be considered as much family as if the two had been married. My vision for same-sex marriage over the next thirty years is that it will become legal and accepted in the United States. This will only happen once people decide that they cannot choose the way anyone, but themselves live out their lives. In the next thirty years, I foresee the divide between the supporters and opposers of same-sex marriage becoming more defined. Also, the divide will become wider, either more people will support or oppose the idea. My full thought is that by 2042 same-sex marriage will be legalized and will end up being a normal type of marriage. Even though not all people will agree with this idea for marriage, I think that the legalization of same-sex marriage is going to inevitably happen no matter what a persons individual opinion might constist. In this paper I explained the position of the supporters of same-sex marriage, the position of the opposers of same-sex marriage, and my position on same-sex marriage. Supporters and opposers of same-sex marriage can be found anywhere in the world. Same-sex marriage will be a controversial issue for many years to come. This is simply because most people will not agree on how the issue of same-sex marriage should be approached or what the right side is supposed to be on this issue. What side of the controversial issue of same-sex marriage might you find yourself?

The debate of gay marriage is very complex, due to the many different feelings people express on the topic. One opinion is that gay marriage should be legalized nationally. Others feel that gay marriage should not be legalized but civil unions should be granted to homosexuals so they have an alternative that allows gays and lesbians to receive something that compares to the same rights as marriage. On the other hand there is a large group that believes neither gay marriage nor civil unions should be offered to gay and lesbian couples and that any legal union should be available to heterosexual couples only. The different opinions that are expressed by society’s attitudes towards gay marriage continue to cause great controversy throughout the country, and should come to a halt by allowing homosexuals to wed.…

Gay marriages have been one of the hottest and controversial topics in our society. There are still problems concerning this issue of homosexuality and gay marriages. Same sex marriages are legal in Hawaii, but in all other states couples must be of the opposite sex to form a marriage. Hawaii’s decision to legalize same sex marriages is considered a milestone victory for gays and may cause a ripple affect for similar action in other states. Those who support gay marriages justify their position by the concept of love. These supporters of gay marriages feel as though gay people are being deprived of their right to love. Many people believe that gay people deserve the right to love and to take that love and form a marriage. These people believe that gays want to feel justified, meaning that as a couple they should be able to define their own marriage for themselves and make their own set of rules. Supports of same-sex marriages feel as though homosexuals are being deprived of their God given right to get married. They believe that arguments against same sex marriages are unconstitutional, and they simply do not justify a ban on same sex marriages. It is not the idea of two people of the same sex getting married that frightens people so much, but it is the thought of change and the fact that the federal government will redefine marriage to allow same sex unions. When people picture the results of same sex marriages, they see images of unstable homes. Everyone would probably agree that homosexuality has changed our society, and legalizing same sex marriages is not likely to be an exception. It would be an injustice to discriminate against a person if he or she were…

Gay marriage has been the cause of intense debate in the United States for years. Sexual activity within the same gender was something that was considered normal in Greek and Roman times but in today’s society, there is a great amount of controversy concerning sexual activity between homosexuals and same-sex marriage. A couple of reasons why gay marriage has become so controversial is because of religion, the issue of procreation, and the concern for children who are raised in same sex house-holds. Although there are a great deal of people who find gay marriage to be considered a negative idea, there is also a significant amount of people who are for gay marriage and would like gay marriage to be legal in the United States. According to The Associated Press 3/27/13, a “Pew Research Center poll” that took place in March shows that the number of people in America who approve gay marriage are up to forty-nine percent and there is forty-four percent of people who do not approve (par.6). Until recently, these same-sex marriages are becoming recognized as a legitimate form of union. In fact, societal ideals found this coupling as a social faux pas and were uneasy with accepting a marriage of this type. “Opponents of legalization warn that granting marital status to lesbians and gay men would threaten the institution of marriage and undermine the family,” (Taylor, Peplau & Sears, 2006,). Through the legalization process this arrangement has become more acceptable and the civil unions between same-sex marriages have increased, and with all of these ramifications the approval rate of this types of marriages are still low. “The majority of Americans disapprove of same-sex marriage. In recent national polls, two thirds of Americans oppose legalizing same-sex…

In the United States, marriage has always played a crucial role in the lives of its citizens. Known to some as a lifetime commitment of devotion, to others a promise to reside with a stranger, or even a matter arranged by parents, marriage is widely practiced and celebrated all over the world. Marriage can be said to be the ultimate act of love, supported with benefits and privileges from the government. The right to marry and love whoever you want has been an corner stone in culture for centuries. It has naturally left such an impact on the development of our country that it has been integrated into the parameters of the law. However, out-dated traditions dictate that marriage must be between a man and a woman, a notion that has sparked much debate in a society where the battle for equal opportunity and freedom of expression run rampant. The institution of marriage is only as strong as those who are in it, and it is weakened, by definition, when it arbitrarily excludes any class of couples. Moreover, to outlaw same-sex marriage is to deny equal-individual’s rights and freedoms under the first amendment, and a clear discrimination against one of our founding principles that is held dear by many.…

The proposed legalization of same-sex marriage is one of the most significant issues in contemporary American family law. As a heavily campaigned development currently discussed in law assessment; these extremely confrontational and debatable political questions are facing present day American courts. If same-sex marriage is legalized, its affect on the parents, children, same sex couples, families, and the social and political world will be astronomical. The arguments surrounding the issue though confrontational nonetheless are easily seen from a wide array of perspectives. One of the perspectives states that marriage is a promise to a spouse to stay loyal and faithful in all aspects of the words. The act of marriage includes financial, legal and social responsibilities for each partner. No matter the composition of the couple, the rules of marriage are the same from most every angle. In the act of marriage two adults bond and lawfully and often, religiously, make a promise to take on its responsibilities. The greatest question, however, is to the sole reason as to why homosexual marriages should be declared illegal or nonexistent.…
