Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the dangers of this scandal and the negative impact it has on young athletes and the National Football League as a whole. Thesis: The New Orleans Saints Bounty Scandal is a very serious situation that not only subjected athletes to an increased risk of injury, but also has had a negative impact on young athletes and on the perception of the Nation Football League.

that the New Orleans Saints football team has put themselves into.
B. The New Orleans Saints Bounty Scandal also dubbed “bountygate” has had
a major effect on football a sport that I as well as probably many of you enjoy
watching. C. Throughout the past week I have researched this topic and I now feel that I know a lot about it. D. The scandal is a serious situation that not only subjected athletes to an increased risk of injury, but also has had a negative impact on young athletes and the perception of the National Football League.
II. According to ESPN.com from the beginning of the 2009 until the end of the 2011 football season the New Orleans Saints football team had been running a bounty incentive system for their players. A. In order to understand the significance of this issue we must first understand what this system was.
1. The Saints scandal was a bounty system that consisted of more than
20 players and defensive coordinator Greg Williams pooling their money
together into a slush fund.
2. A slush fund in the context of corrupt dealings has a connotation of
illegality and illegitimacy in regards to where the money came from.
3. The money from this slush fund was then used to pay players
bonuses for inflicting injury on opposing players, which would force
