Rumpelstiltskin: Tony Blair and Fairy Tale
Rumpelstiltskin

The fairy tale I chose was Rumpelstiltskin. The fairy tale is about a miller’s daughter whose father tells the king of the kingdom that she can spin gold. When the king heard this, he threw her in a room and tells her that if the room isn’t filled with gold from the straw, she will pay with her life. The miller’s daughter doesn’t have a clue on how to spin straw to gold so she sits on the floor hopeless and starts to cry. Then a little man walks in and asks her what is wrong. She tells him her situation and he offers to help but at a certain price. Her necklace. She agrees and he spins all the gold by morning and leaves. The king walks in and is pleased with all the gold. He takes her to another room and says the same thing as the night before but this room is bigger. Again the daughter has no idea on how to spin straw to gold so she starts crying. The little man walks in the room again. He tells her that he will spin it all for her ring. The daughter agrees and falls asleep while he works. He does his work and leaves again. The king comes in and is again pleased with the daughter’s work. He takes her to another room, twice as large as the others and tells her that if she is able to spin it to gold by morning, she will be queen. The king leaves and once again she starts crying. Again the little man returns and asks what the daughter will give him if he spins the straw. She says she has nothing left to give. The little man tells her that when she is queen, she must give him her first born baby. She agrees seeing that she has no other way out. The man does his work and leaves. The king comes and sees the work she has done as marries the daughter. She becomes queen and years pass. She has a baby but doesn’t remember the agreement she made with the little man. One day the little man returns and asks for the baby. The queen begs for him not to take her baby. The little man gave her one more chance. The little man told her that if she guessed his

Greed is a powerful emotion. It can be defined as “A selfish and excessive desire for more of something (as money) than is needed” (Merriam-Webster). Among other emotions, negative ones such as this can be found in many fairy tales. In Rumpelstiltskin, written by the Brothers Grimm, greed is very influential as seen in the characters’ constant desires for unnecessary luxuries and how they base their decisions in search for either power or materialistic items. First there is the father, who is willing to give his daughter to the king for the chance of recognition. As well, there is the King, who is always in need for more wealth. Finally, Rumpelstiltskin, who longs for the opportunity to take more from the poor miller’s daughter.…

Then one evening, as I was having my usual mother-daughter talk with Rapunzel, the prince had the nerve to climb up the tower. I guess some people think just because they have money and power that they can do whatever they want. Anyway, when the prince climbed in the window, he accidently fell on my gardening rake and poked his eyes out. I ran for help, but by the time I came back with a doctor, the prince was gone.…

As a child fairytales was the only things that I read and even watched. I imagined many worlds of magic and fun. To me, fairytales and magic should be a part of every child’s youth. The reason is, with fairytales, they are the starting point to a child’s creativity and imagination but are also taught lessons in everyday life. As a child those lessons in the beginning are hard for then to comprehend as they are not fully capable to understand the lessons and meanings in the stories, but as they get older they become wiser and are able to understand the deeper meaning of the fairytales and what effect they had on their lives.…

Fairy tales evolve over time as they are told from generation to generation, regardless if they are passed on by word of mouth or through print. Some have great variations; some are the same except a few mini details. No matter what the differences, they all have the moral in common at the heart of the story. With Cinderella, one learns that despite being unappreciated and doomed to serving others, as long as you are kind natured and a truly good person, your dreams will come true.…

Cinderella’s father one day goes to the fair and asks his step daughters and daughter what they want from the fair. Of course the stepdaughters tell them they want extravagant dresses but what Cinderella asks for is quite odd. She asks for the first branch the rubs against his hat. This symbolizes her love for both her parents because she didn’t want her father to waste his money on expensive things and after he get the branch she buries it on her mom’s grave and cries on it so much that the tears water it and it grows to become a tree. We've always read or been read fairy tales once in our lives, and how do they always end? Yes, happily ever after. In Anne Sexton's "Cinderella", she shakes up the traditional fairy tale, by adding her own tale. She uses sarcasm to finish the tale, causing the reader's expectation of a happy ending and a traditional fairy tale to disappear. In doing so, she depicts the difference between the fairy tale and reality world.…

    Ariel's Ignorance

The determination, love, and ignorance of Ariel makes her fairy-tale written by Disney movie writers John Musker and Ron Clements a classic. Personally, this is my favorite fairy-tale because Ariel demonstrates determination for love. She was willing to give up her voice just to see the prince again. “Desperate to see Prince Eric again, Ariel agreed to give her voice to the evil sea witch Ursula” (Musker & Clements 6). But though her actions seem for a good purpose, I believe that Ariel is also exceedingly ignorant. She trusts an evil sea-witch to transform her into a human for a prince that she had just met. It seems sketchy for a young girl like Ariel to trust people without even knowing them personally. Her ignorance also carries into…

Everyone assumes fairy tales are suppose to be happy or have a happy ending, but do all of them? In the story Goldilocks and the three bears, a girl was wandering through the woods, found a house, and decided to go in it. She ended up using and breaking things that weren't hers. In the story Little Red Riding Hood, a girl was walking through the woods to her grandmas, and a wolf tricks her on the way, and at her grandmas. In both of these stories, the girls end up in trouble or in a bad situation. These stories aren't necessarily “happy” or have a happy ending, do they?…

The short story called “Achenputtel” was written in the early 1800’s by two men in their twenties Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in Germany. In English, readers know it as Cinderella. The Grimm brothers grew up listening to folk tales from their relatives and towns people. “We have been collecting these fairy tales for some thirteen years; …, contained mostly what we gathered little by little from the folklore of Hessen, in the regions bordering on the Main and Kinzig rivers, in the county of Hanau, where we come from” (Wortsman). They heard so many stories they decided to write some of their own with a twist.…
