RU S Influence To My Future
My name is Abigail Amponsem. I am a freshman this year, majoring in either Athletic Training or Sports medicine to eventually become an Athletic trainer or physical therapist. I see Radford University playing a role in my future for several reasons. One of them being that there is no way I can accomplish my goal of becoming an AT or PT without at least a bachelor’s degree and attending Radford University is my way of attaining my bachelor’s degree. Another would be knowing that Radford is an accredited school. Therefore, in the future when I do the numerous internships that I plan on, showing whomever it may concern that I attended Radford would give me a better shot at what I am aiming for. Radford also has a lot of clubs, activities, programs, and staff that will prepare me to accomplish my goal of becoming an AT or PT along with being the best at it. So ultimately, Radford University plays a major role in my future because my dream of becoming the best athletic trainer or physical therapist started when I set my foot on campus.

When I officially joined OSU as a freshman, I joined the small biomedical science major and biological sciences group. I’ve persevered through many stages of my athletic career including being told by coaches at the age of 14, you will never be good enough to play varsity. I spent the next two years working passionately to be stronger, faster, smarter, and varsity quality. My hard work proved to be successful in baseball and the classroom. I was 2015 First Team All Orange County Player, All Sunset League Player two years, and CIF Champion. That hard work and dedication lead to multiple Division I offers. I choose Cal Poly because of the education, the baseball program, and the SLO community. I’ve been asked to share my story with little leaguers and high school athletes. One day I had a conversation about my struggle to find a college to a mentor of mine. My mentor informed how he had recently visited a college in Missouri where his friend worked called College of the Ozarks. As he began to describe the college, I became more and more intrigued. He encouraged me to apply there and connected me with his friend who worked at the college. It did not bother me that I did not know where Missouri was on the map or that I had never stepped foot there. As I researched the college I finally became sure of at least one thing, I was sure that I belonged at College of the…

It’s all about driving students from all walks of life to perform to the best of their capabilities. There all about welcoming African American students and encouraging them to pursue greater heights. My only wish is that I will be given a chance to contribute even in the smallest of way, in helping the university keep its reputation and the prestige it deserves. Doing so is not an impossible task for I believe that simply being myself will be a contribution itself. I honestly believe that I am strong enough to face the multiple challenges that will come along the way as I pursue my…
