Machiavelli Vs. Rousseau
      Without a government, there is a chance man would be overrun with disorder.   Every government has to consist of a leader for its followers.   The leader controls the government and controls the laws of the people, and the land they live on.     Machiavelli lived in the 15th century into the early 16th, while Rousseau lived in the 18th century.   They both lived in different time frames and locations and both had similar and different views on the way they ruled.   They both believed in harnessing power to rule the land, but Machiavelli used power to put fear in the people.   Rousseau believed his people should give up their freedoms and practices in order to gain freedom and rights.
      Machiavelli thought of himself as a leader everyone should obey and fear.   He believed he had to have complete power over his people, but if a prince is corrupt with power and greed, the people will act against him.   As a prince, you must listen to the people and think about their views and opinions on how they want to live in their society.   Machiavelli thought of his followers as being dishonest and believed that if his people were not being honest with him, why should he, be honest with them.   Machiavelli thought that a good prince should harness power through lies and deceiving his people.   Machiavelli says “He should not stray for the good, but he could know how to enter into evil when necessity commands.”   When a ruler has proper control over the people he rules, they will obey and fear the consequences of being punished.   Rousseau has made many people believe that if manipulation and deception must be part of ruling a society, then the way of ruling must be changed.   Rousseau believed that participation of social contract should give up all of the rights and freedoms and in return grant his followers various freedoms to live by.   Rousseau wanted all of his followers to...
