Love is Life
Cause and Effect Essay
Throughout the world today, we see people putting love ahead of any other element of life. The story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is a common example of this. The plot is about two teens that are in love but forbidden to see each other so to be together they take their own lives because their love for each other is more important than anything else in their lives. Several characters throughout the story impact the choices that Romeo and Juliet make. Their families influence their rebellion because they forbid their children to see one another, Friar Laurence tries to help the two make it through such a hard situation and they both influence one another because they both do whatever it takes to be together. Through their interactions with Friar Laurence, their families, and each other, Romeo and Juliet come to see that love is the most important element to life. Friar Laurence influenced Romeo and Juliet to see that love is the most important element of life when he married them and when he gave Juliet the potion to help fake her death. Juliet asked Romeo to marry her and Romeo agreed because he was deeply in love with her. The two are forbidden from seeing each other so they went to Friar Laurence and asked if he would wed them. Romeo said:
Then plainly know, my heart’s dead love is set
On the fair daughter of rich Capulet;
As mine on hers, so hers is set on mine.
And all combin’d, save what thou must combine
By holy marriage. When and where and how
We met, we woo’d, and made exchange of vow,
I’ll tell these as we pass, but this I pray,
That thou consent to marry us today. (II iii 57-64)
