Romeo and Juleit

In the play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare shows the key idea of think with your head, not with your heart. This idea is still relevant today as people today usually think with their heart without thinking with their head first. In the play when Romeo meets Juliet at the Capulets ball, the idea of think with your head, not with your heart is still relevant today. Romeo said when he sees the beauty of Juliet, Did my heart love til now Forswear its sight. For I never saw true beauty til this night. I know Romeo is now thinking with his heart now because a minute ago he was frustrated about Rosaline, but now he forgets everything about Rosaline and fall in love with Juliet. Later on, Romeo soon finds out that Juliet is Capulet. He says Is she a Capulet My life is my foes debt. This shows me how stupid Romeo is because if he uses his head to think about the identity of Juliet, both of them can avoid this star-crossed love. I think Shakespeare wrote this to warn his audience think with your head, not with your heart as well as making his audience excited. This actually worked for me because though I knew this scene makes Romeo look foolish, I felt excited about what is going on next. The idea of think with your head, not with your heart is still relevant today as many people today fall in love quickly with each other by just looking at the profile picture on facebook, which is a really bad idea as they know nothing about each other but only a picture. Not like the freedom society we live in now, actually it was not always possible for a girl and a boy fall in love with each other so quickly and get married during middle century as parents usually have the complete authority over their children. So the audiences would probably felt jealous about the love between Romeo and Juliet as most of their marriages were arranged by their parents but not themselves. When Romeo slews Tybalt for Mercutios revenge, the idea of think with your head, not with your heart is still relevant today. Romeo says angrily to Tybalt after the death of Mercutio Either thou, or I, or both must go with him I noticed that Romeo is now thinking with his heart instead of his head because if he thinks about the future for him and Juliet, he can realize how the consequence would be if Tybalt is being killed by him. Romeo later feels regret for what he has done, he says Im fortunes fool However its too late, fortune is completely running away from him when he thinks with his heart, not with his head. The author wrote this because he wanted to persuade his audience to think with your head, not with your heart also make his audience feel worry. I think William Shakespeare did a good job here because I was really worried about the things would happen on Romeo next. The idea of think with your head, not with your heart is still relevant today as this reminds me of the murders in news, they usually felt regret for what they have done. They said that they didnt actually want to kill others, but their heart control their head at that time and it was too late for them when they saw the corpse lying in front of them. Thats my understanding which is really different to the audiences in Shakespeare time. They would show respect to Romeo as an individuals personal pride and reputation were extremely important. A person from a famous family like Capulet or Montague would feel really proud to own a family name and if one family member was injured or killed by another, they might seek revenge which could continue for generations. William Shakespeare used dramatic irony to show the idea of think with your head, not with your heart when Romeo comes to Juliets tomb and this idea is still relevant today. Romeo says Beautys ensign yet is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks and deaths pale flag is still not advanced there. This is dramatic irony because Romeo doesnt know Juliet is still alive while the audiences know. However, if Romeo thinks with his head more he can understand that Juliet is still alive, but he give up thinking with his head and try to follow his heart. He says thus with a kiss I die and drink the poison just a second before Juliet wakes up Thats such a big shame that Romeo chooses to think only with his heart, he is too rushing to die with Juliet. I think Shakespeare did this because he wanted to inform the idea of think with your head, not with your heart and keep his audience excited and nervous. This is really well done because I felt really excited when Romeo describes the beauty that still remains on Juliet. I even thought that maybe they wouldnt have to die and I really wanted to tell Romeo the truth. Thats why we still study Shakespeare today because idea of think with your head, not with your heart is still relevant today. It remains me of the people killed themselves today. Plenty of people choose to die because of many reasons, like sadness and pressure, etc. However it was a really impulsive move to choose to die. They still have their families and friends. If they think with their head first, they would understand how painful their families and friends would feel. However, Shakespeares audience at that time seemed feeling in a completely different way as they were superstitious. They would have understood the idea of fate control people through the play and relate all the events to the star-crossed love. The fate conspires so much against Romeo and Juliet that it is unrealistic to a modern day audience. In conclusion, in the play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare shows the key idea of think with your head, not with your heart and this idea is still relevant today.
